| Wolfpack thumps N. Brunswick 12-4 LELAND Arron Carroll led off the night for North Brunswick with a single Friday, but after that Whiteville High pitcher Robbie Penny held the Scorpions hitless as the Wolfpack claimed a 12-4 Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference baseball victory at wind-whipped NBHS field. It marked the sixth straight victory for Brett Harwood’s WHS squad. The Wolfpack overcame a 4-1 Scorpion lead after three innings to dominate the final four frames. Penny struck out nine batters and walked two in his one-hitter as the Wolfpack put its conference record at 5-0 and season record at 9-5. “Robbie threw a real strong game and we did a good job of coming back when we got down early,” Harwood said. “We’ve played pretty well in our conference games so far but there is still a long way to go.” Penny, a junior righthander, threw 107 pitches in the complete game performance. Whiteville, which will play host to South Columbus (currently 5-0 in the conference also) Friday at night 7. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for North Brunswick. The Scorpions, who are 4-2 in conference, will play host to South Columbus tonight at 7. A two-run double by Lloyd Enzor was the big hit of the Wolfpack’s four-run fourth inning, and a two-run triple by Cameron White keyed a three-run sixth inning. Sprandon Mahoney and Scott Stephens knocked back-to-back doubles in the seventh. Mahoney had three hits for Whiteville White and Quan Gaddy each had two hits. Dustin Medlin was the losing pitcher for North Brunswick. North Brunswick scored three runs in the third inning on a walk, an error and two muffed fielder’s choice plays at the plate.
