| Rams sweep doubleheader from Methodist JVs
By GARY RABON The Southeastern Community College Rams increased their winning baseball streak to five games by sweeping the visiting Methodist College JVs by scores of 4-0 and 15-1 Thursday afternoon at SCC Field. The two wins pushed the Rams’ season record to 17-19. In the first game Nathan Sides, Daniel Rabon and Nomar Pagani held the Monarchs to two hits while striking out nine hitters in the win. Sides picked up his team-leading 5th win in the victory. Coach Joey Autry’s Rams, limited to four hits themselves, picked up a pair of runs in the second inning when Brandon Farrar singled in a run and Ariel Mercedes drove in a run on a groundout. Justin Batchelor drove in the third run in the third inning on another groundout and scored their final run in the 4th inning when Mercedes singled in Diego Marquez. Eric Stone and Batchelor had the other two hits for the Rams. Willie Barnette had two hits for the Monarchs. Blake King took the loss for Methodist.

If the opening game was a pitchers dual, the nightcap of the doubleheader was anything but. The Rams banged out 15 hits and scored 15 runs in two innings of the game shortened after four and a half innings due to the mercy rule in a 15-1 win. The Rams batted around in both of the first two innings. The first eight batters scored before an out was recorded. The big blow of the inning came off the bat of Andrew Mudd when he drove in a pair of runs on his fourth home run of the season. SCC scored five more runs in the second inning on six hits with Justin Batchelor delivering a two-run home run, his fourth of the season. Andrew Mudd and Nic McClary both added triples Batchelor led the Rams at the plate with three hits, three runs, and three RBIs. McClary, Jonathan Rabon and Eric Stone had two hits each. Marcus Blackwell, Brandon Farrar, Drew Matthews and Josh Hodges added hits with Hodges knocking in two runs. Four Ram pitchers held the Monarchs to four hits. The Rams return to action today when they travel to play Methodist for a doubleheader before traveling to Laurinburg Tuesday to play St. Andrews JVs.
