| Gators fall to S. Brunswick
By DAN BISER LAKE WACCAMAW Seven errors along with some clutch pitching by South Brunswick lefthander Kenric Randolph proved to be the downfall of the East Columbus Gators Friday night as they dropped a 4-2 Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference baseball game to the visiting Cougars. The result left both teams with 1-4 conference records. South Brunswick drew six walks and scored three of its runs as a direct result of fielding and throwing errors. “We didn’t make the plays tonight, and if you can’t do that, you aren’t going to win many ball games,” said Gator coach Karl Bracey, whose squad was coming off a pair of lop-sided victories over Pender and Wallace-Rose Hill. “We just didn’t get the job done.” Alex Sasser and Demetrius McKelvie each had two hits for East Columbus, which will take a 5-8 season record into Tuesday’s conference game at Trask. Jonathan “Earl” Reaves had a run-scoring single while losing pitcher Cameron Spears and Allen Bracey also had hits. The Gators had runners at second and third when the final out was made. Kenny Lewis led South Brunswick with two hits, including a double. Ryan Morgan had a run-scoring single and scored twice as the Cougars picked up only their third win of the season. Randolph struck out eight batters and walked three while scattering seven hits. South Brunswick will travel to meet West Columbus Tuesday night at 7 in a non-conference game.
