ROCKY POINT - Demetrius McKelvie blasted a two-run homer and Jonathan “Earl” Reaves pitched a complete game victory Tuesday in the East Columbus Gators’ 8-5 Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference baseball victory over host Heide Trask.

The result left both teams with 2-4 conference records.

East Columbus played at Whiteville on Wednesday.

Reaves allowed seven hits and struck out seven batters.

Travis Hollis, Alex Williamson and Alex Sasser had doubles for the Gators, who put their season record at 6-9.

Coach Karl Bracey’s East Columbus team is one of three 1A squads in the Waccamaw Conference vying with Trask and Pender to gain the conference’s top berth in the upcoming state 1A playoffs.
