No excuse’
voting leaves
no excuses

The May 2 primaries are right around the corner, but voters can avoid waits and mad dashes to polling places by utilizing “one-stop” voting, which began Wednesday.

It’s easy. Simply go to one of four one-stop polling places -- Fair Bluff Fire and Rescue, Bolton Town Hall, Tabor City Courthouse or East Columbus Senior Center on April 19-21 and April 26-28 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and vote. The Board of Elections office on Chadbourn Highway in Whiteville is open for one-stop voting during regular business hours.

New voting machines, which provide a much better paper trail than the previous machines, are now in use.

The machines also make it easier for those who have difficulty seeing. Even the blind and quadriplegics have special provisions that allow them to vote in private.

This year’s primary features Democrat races for district attorney and county commissioners in districts 6 and 7 (seats now held by Kip Godwin, who is not running, and David Dutton respectively).

There are also nonpartisan races for several judgeships, including the State Supreme Court seat sought by local Superior Court Judge William C. Gore Jr.

One-stop voting ends Tuesday, April 29.
