BARBARA P. WARD

WHITEVILLE - Barbara Jean P. Ward, 65, died Monday, April 24, 2006 at Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville.

 

NEALIOUS RICHARDSON
Hwy. construction worker
and veteran

WHITEVILLE - Nealious Richardson, 68, died Thursday, April 20, 2006 at Columbus Regional Healthcare.

He was a highway construction worker and a veteran of the United States Army.

Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 25 at Central Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. David Flowers. Burial will follow at the Campground Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Carr Richardson; four daughters, Cheryl Richardson of Holly Springs, Vera Robinson and Paula Robinson, both of Whiteville, and Clydia Robinson of Miami, Fla.; seven sons, Darryl Richardson and Ricky Richardson, both of Holly Springs, Clarence Carr of Hallsboro, Larry Carr, Andrew Robinson, Eddie Robinson, and Keith Robinson, all of Whiteville; a sister, Ossie Jane Richardson of Holly Springs; three brothers, Garland Richardson of Raleigh, Otis Richardson of Augusta, Ga., and Thealphus Richardson of Apex.

Viewing will be held at the funeral home Monday, April 24 from noon-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9-11 a.m. and viewing will be at the church following the service.

 

LARION J. McNEIL

JAMAICA, N.Y. - Larion Junior McNeil, 68, formerly of Tabor City died Tuesday, April 18, 2006. He was the son of the late Larion and Bessie McNeil.

Final rites will be held at noon Monday, April 23 from the First Baptist Missionary Church in Tabor City with the Rev. Llewellyn Dewitt delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Columbus County Singing Union Cemetery. Westside Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Jean S. McNeil; two sons, Barry McNeil of Jamaica, N.Y., and Larion McNeil II of Mebane; three daughters, Denise McNeil of Huntsville, Ala., Donna McNeil of Jamaica, N.Y., and Kimbly Burgess of New York; three brothers, Robert McNeil of Durham, Henry McNeil of Salisbury, Md., Norman and John McNeil of Trenton, N.J.; a sister, Legertha M. Frieson of Tabor City; and seven stepchildren.

 

FRANK MIMS JR.

ELIZABETHTOWN - Frank Mims Jr., 76, died Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at Highsmith-Rainey Hospital in Fayetteville.

Graveside services were held Friday, April 21 at Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville with Bishop Aaron Waters delivering the eulogy. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Gladine Sutton Mims; two sons, Darryl Mims and Dennis Bryan; three daughters, Beverly Mims Hall, Deborah Bryan Cook, and Tonya Bryan; and a brother, Charles Waddell.

He was preceded in death by wife, Myrtle Dew Mims; parents, Parthenia and Rev. Alfred Waddell; birth parents, Alice Mims and John Mims; brothers, Charlie Mims, Jesse Mims; sisters, Edna White and Ruby Mims.

 

PEARL SUGGS

WHITEVILLE - Pearl Suggs, 87, died Monday, April 24, 2006 at Liberty Commons.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Peacock's Chapel in the Pines of Whiteville.

 

MARGUERITE E. BLACKWELL

CERRO GORDO - Marguerite Edwards Blackwell, 77, died Saturday, April 22, 2006 at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Leon and Gladys Blye Mercer Edwards and the widow of Alvie James Blackwell.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Ann Green; a sister, Elizabeth E. Bennett, and a brother, Harold Teen Edwards.

Final rites will be conducted Tuesday, April 25 at 2 p.m. at Cedar Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Howard Fowler officiating. Interment will follow in the Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Loretta B. Soles and her husband, Lee of Chadbourn, and Gwen B. Williamson of Cerro Gordo; a son, Jamie Carroll Blackwell and his wife, Nance of Raleigh; a sister, Dorothy Edwards Benton of Brunswick; six grandchildren, Darrell Green, Harold Green Jr., Rhonda Acuna, Michael Green, Stacey Soles, and Emily Blackwell; four great - grandchildren, Kayla Green, Montgomery Green, Rachel Green, and Jarrett Green.

A special thanks to her caregivers, Hattie Ward, Deane Batten, and Selena George.

Visitation will be from 7-9 Monday, April 24 at the funeral home.

 

LEO ELMORE

Leo Elmore was the son of the late Rev. Henry and Gladys Elmore and was born in Horry County, S.C. on Aug. 13, 1937. On April 21, 2006 at Community Hospital in Loris, S.C. his soul peacefully slipped into the arms of his Savior.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandpa. He was well known for his love of music and the talent to create fine woodwork. He attended Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church, where he was admired and was known as "The Candy Man."

Final rites were held Sunday, April 23 at Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church with the Reverends William Jackie Godwin and Buster Benton officiating. Interment followed in the McPherson Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn handled the arrangements.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 20 years, Alice Nealy Elmore; two sons, Thomas Elmore and Mark Elmore and his wife, Kathy; two daughters, Darlene Elmore and Lori E. Teague and her husband, Ron; two step-daughters, Debra Ward and her husband, Norman, and Lisa Nobles and her husband Gregory Kim; two sisters, Judy Hardee, and Donna Nesbeitt; grandchildren, Anthony Leo Elmore, Natalie Elmore, Kimberly and Ashleigh Nobles; great-grandchildren, Savannah Elmore, Hunter and Hannah Nobles.

Pallbearers were Anthony Elmore, Eddie Graham, Gene Mishoe, Billy Ray Nobles, Danny Ray Nobles, and Kenneth Shelley.

 

ANNABELLE O. BAKER

FAIR BLUFF -- Annabelle Oswalt Baker, 82, died Sunday, April 23, 2006 at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was born in Tyrone, Pa., the oldest child of Richard and Charlotte Oswalt. She was predeceased by her five brothers, and her husband of 56 years, Rev. Claire Baker.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 26 at Cherry Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Dr. Ray Lundy and the Rev. Elmore Strickland will officiate. Meares Funeral Home of Fair Bluff is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Claire Sizemore of Greenville, and Mary Barlow of Harrodsburg, Ky.; three sons, Allen Baker of Spring, Texas, Rev. Ken Baker of Whiteville, and David Baker of Fair Bluff; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 25 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
