| Wolfpack girls soccer squad eyeing playoffs DUBLIN - The Whiteville High girls soccer team moved a step closer to clinching its first-ever state playoff berth Monday with a 3-1 victory over host West Bladen. Coach Mike Buckpitt’s WHS squad, which put its Waccamaw/Southeastern 1A-2A Conference record at 7-3 and 8-9-1 overall, was scheduled to play host to East Bladen on Wednesday (see result in A-section). Mary Kindschuh scored two of the WHS goals in Monday’s victory while Sarah Gore had the other. Goalkeeper Katie Bastug had seven saves. Kindschuh, a junior, and Gore, a sophomore, have combined to score more than 30 of the WHS goals this season. A third-place finish in the Waccamaw/Southeastern standings would assure the Lady Wolfpack a berth the state 1A-2A playoffs. South Brunswick has secured the conference championship. |
