WCHS blows away Tornadoes 12-1

CERRO GORDO - An eight-run third inning and John David White’s one-hit pitching led the way for the West Columbus Vikings Tuesday in a 12-1 victory over visiting Fairmont in a Southeastern 1A-2A Conference baseball game.

The game was halted in the fifth inning by the 10-run rule as Coach Ricky Young’s Vikings ran their conference record to 7-0 and overall record to 18-1. The Vikings are riding a nine-game winning streak.

West Columbus’ big third-inning surge featured Daniel Britt’s fifth home run of the season - a three-run blast - and a bases-loaded double by Chason Ford. Ford also had a run-scoring ground-out to finish with four RBIs for the night.

Brett Godwin had two hits for the Vikings while Devon Brown had a double.

White struck out eight batters and walked four in taking the mound victory.

West Columbus will travel to play Red Springs Friday at 7 p.m.
