rips Fairmont

East Columbus and Whiteville each suffered Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference softball losses on Tuesday while West Columbus bolted to a 15-0 rout of Fairmont in a Southeastern 1A-2A Conference game.

East Columbus 2
North Brunswick’s Christy Child pitched a four-hitter as the Lady Scorpions put their conference record at 7-1. Visiting North Brunswick put the game away with four runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Caitlin Lane, Hannah Proctor, Morgan Patrick and Alicia Freeman had hits for East Columbus, whose conference record is 5-3. The Lady Gators are 11-6 overall.

NBHS’s Akimi Hardin, Jennifer Linkous and Tesha Harrison had triples.

Pender 13
Whiteville 0
Pender pitcher Britney Roper held the Lady Wolfpack to just two hits in a game called in the fifth-inning by the 10-run rule. Pender improved to 5-3 while Whiteville slipped to 4-4 in conference play.

West Columbus 15
Fairmont 0
In a game halted after three innings, WC’s Caroline Newman pitched a no-hitter and hit a double. Newman retired nine of the 10 batters she faced and struck out six.

Brooke Cartrette had two hits while Jessica Hayes and Patrice Jenkins had one hit each for the Lady Vikings, who are now 6-1 in conference play.
