Gators fall to
N. Brunswick 8-4 LAKE WACCAMAW - The North Brunswick Scorpions scored six runs in the first inning while getting only one hit Tuesday night as they went on take an 8-4 Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference baseball victory over the host East Columbus Gators. Gator starting pitcher Cameron Spears hit three NB batters with pitches in the first inning that helped lead to the Scorpions’ early lead. Starting NB pitcher Dustin Medlin hit an RBI single for the Scorpions’ only hit of the frame. Medlin, a former ECHS player, was the winning pitcher, handling mound chores through six innings. Jonathan “Earl” Reaves came on to pitch for the Gators in the first inning and went the rest of the way. Alex Sasser had a double for East Columbus while Mark Brisson, Cameron Spears and Reaves also had Gator hits. North Brunswick, which was coming off three straight losses in last week’s Touchstone Energy Beach Diamond Classic at West Brunswick, has a 5-3 record in the Waccamaw Conference standings. East Columbus, with Whiteville its only conference loss to date just prior to the holidays, suffered its third straight loss. The Gators’ conference record now stands at 3-5. East Columbus will travel to play conference co-leader South Columbus on Friday at 7 p.m. |
