The Waccamaw Academy Warriors rallied from a three-run sixth inning deficit to take a 7-6 extra-inning victory over Ballston Spa, N.Y., Friday at Warrior Field.

Waccamaw Academy brought across the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning when Ian Hooks scored from third base on a single by Dustin Williamson. Freshman Nathan Long, who hit a sixth-inning home run and put down a key bunt in the eighth inning, picked up the pitching win in relief.

“It was a good effort,” said Warrior coach Robbie Allen. “We were able to come back after getting behind late in the game and a lot of our young guys really came through. I feel like it was the kind of win that can boost our confidence a little.”

Waccamaw Academy had tied the game with a towering two-run homer over the centerfield fence by Ben Rouse in the seventh inning.

Hooks knocked a solo home run in the sixth inning while Justin Rhodes finished with three hits. Williamson and Long each had three hits as the Warriors put their season record at 9-6. The Warriors finished with 10 hits.

The touring Balston Spa squad collected eight hits.

It was second eight-inning loss for the New York team in as many days. On Thursday, the Scotties fell to Whiteville 4-3 in eight innings at Legion Stadium.

Coach Robbie Allen’s Warriors will meet crosstown rival Whiteville on Tuesday at 7 p.m., at Legion Stadium.
