ROWLAND - Samantha Blackwell ripped a grand-slam home run and winning pitcher Caroline Newman also homered Friday in West Columbus High’s 18-0 softball victory over South Robeson.

The game was halted after six innings by the 10-run rule as Coach Cindy Faulk’s Lady Vikings upped their Southeastern 1A-2A Conference record to 3-1.

Newman allowed only two hits while striking out 12 batters. The Lady Vikings had 23 hits in all. Blackwell had three hits and drove in seven runs while and Amber Hansen each had four hits. Candace Walker, Jessica Ransom and Jessica Hayes each had three hits and Brooke Cartrette had two doubles. Newman and Leanna Strickland each had two hits.

The Lady Vikings will travel to play St. Pauls on Tuesday.
