WHITEVILLE James Bartley Reaves Jr., 85, died Saturday, April 1, 2006 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was a son of the late James Bradley and Kate Gore Reaves.
He was owner and operator of Reaves Amusements in Whiteville, until his health began to decline at which time he turned the business over to his son.
A private memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8 from the Chapel of Brunswick Funeral Home by the Rev. Steve Bailey. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Brunswick Funeral Service of Shallotte is handling the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Macon Reaves of the home, a son, James Bartley Reaves III and wife Maria of Whiteville; a daughter, Jerri Reaves and husband James Brock of Ft. Myers, Fla., a sister, Ruth R. Johnson of Whiteville, and two grandchildren, James Bradley Reaves IV and Kennedy Gray Reaves.
The family request that no flowers be sent but that donations in Reaves name be made to The Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center, P.O. Box 636, Whiteville, N.C. 28472.
TABOR CITY Doris Ann Dewitt Hemingway, 63, died Friday, March 31, 2006 at Loris Community Hospital, Loris, S.C.
Final rites were held Tuesday, April 4 from the Union Mission Baptist Church in Green Sea, S.C. with the Rev. Rodney Gore delivering the eulogy. Burial followed in the Flagpatch Cemetery, Loris, S.C. Westside Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
Survivors include seven children, Joyce Grady, Lisa Hemingway, Linda Farris, Cheryl Hemingway, Connie Hemingway, Frank Hemingway Jr., and Sandra Hemingway.
MARY L. LIVINGSTON

TABOR CITY Mary L. Livingston, 70, died Saturday, April 1, 2006 at Shoreland Healthcare and Retirement Center in Whiteville. She was a factory worker.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 6 at Little Iron Hill Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Jerry Ganus. Burial will follow in Stephens-Wright Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Bellamy of Loris, S.C.; four sons, Thomas Livingston and Tony Livingston of Loris, S.C., Timothy Livingston and Martin Livingston of Boston, Mass.; and a sister, Patricia Radcliffe of Boston, Mass.
Viewing will be at the church following the service.
WHITEVILLE Henry Isaiah Lesesne, 58, died Friday, March 31, 2006. He was a farmer.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 7 at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Manning, S.C. Burial will be in the Maysville Cemetery in Maysville, S.C. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include three sons, Eddie Lesesne, David Lesesne, and Henry Lesesne Jr., all of Manning, S.C.; two daughters, Lisa Jackson of Sanford, Fla. and Lisa Ledwell of Augusta, Ga.
LUMBERTON James Earl Thompson, 52, died Monday, April 3, 2006 at his residence.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 6 at Cashwell Cemetery-Burney Road, Bladenboro. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include a son, James Thompson Jr. of Washington State; three daughters, Janet Dove of Dublin, Jamie Bergstresser of Fairmont, and Jessica Thompson of Bladenboro; a brother, Michael Thompson of Bladenboro; four sisters, Vella Rose Babson of Elizabethtown, Levona Thompson and Belinda Dove, both of Bladenboro, and Betty Jean Thompson of Georgia; and two grandchildren.
WHITEVILLE William Jesse Long Sr., formerly of Hallsboro, died Saturday, April 1, 2006. He was the son of the late of Walter Emerson Long and Eva Lula Jones Long. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Williamson Long.
Final rites were held Thursday, April 6 at McKenzie Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Robert Jackson officiating. Burial followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lake Waccamaw. McKenzie Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty L. Carrier of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., L. Jane Dunham of Atlanta, Ga., and Deborah L. Hoover of Stamping Ground, Ky.; two sons, William J. Long Jr. of Arcadia, Calif., and Michael Long of Blacksburg, S.C.; two sisters, Estaleen Faulk of Nakina, and Eula Gray Register of Whiteville; 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. William McClain Moore formerly of the Farmers Union community, died March 31, 2006 here. He was a construction worker.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8 at Rehobeth AME Zion Church with Pastor Johnus Freeman delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in Mitchellfield Cemetery. Union Funeral Home of Whiteville and Emanual Johnson Funeral Home of Philadelphia, Pa. is handling the arrangements.
He survived by his wife, Leoria Moore; five children, Margie Phifer, Earnest Phifer, George Phifer, Denise Tyler, and Mickey Moore; four brothers, Wiley Moore, Marvin Moore, Ted Moore, and Leo Moore; seven sisters: Mary Palmore, Sarah Williams, Barbara Troy, Mary Simmons, Top Webb, Faye Batiste, and Marie Spaulding.
Viewing will be at the church one hour prior to the services and after the service.
FAYETTEVILLE Eleanor “Pimp” McNeill, 92, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at her residence. She was the sister of the late Mildred Moore of Whiteville.
Arrangements will be announced by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville.
PORSMOUTH, Va. Margie Lee Clarida Jackson, 80, formerly of Nakina, died Friday, March 31, 2006 here.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 7 at Zion Plain Missionary Baptist Church in Nakina by the Rev. Timothy Moss. Burial will follow in the New Zion Plain Cemetery in Nakina. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Marcella Jackson of Portsmouth, Va., and Carolyn Holmes of New York, N.Y.; five sons, Elmore Jackson Jr. and Orea Jackson of Whiteville, Daniel Jackson, Bobby Jackson, and Thomas Jackson, all of Nakina; a step-daughter, Versie Jackson of Rock Hill, S.C.; two sisters, Harriet Piggott of Nakina and Elizabeth Burke of New Jersey; two brothers, Riley Clarida of New York and Percy Clarida of Longwood.
Viewing will be at the funeral home on Thursday, April 6 from noon-8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m.-noon. There will be a wake Thursday from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Friends may visit the family at the home of Thomas Jackson, 1847 Happy Home Road, Nakina.
FORREST RAY ‘TEE TIE’ LONG
NAKINA Forrest Ray “Tee Tie” Long, 44, died Monday, April 3, 2006 from injuries received due to an automobile accident. He was the son of the late Ralph and Addie Clewis Long.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 7 at the Long Family Cemetery in Crusoe with the Reverends Leroy Long and Ervin Etheridge officiating. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Kelsie Norris Long of the home; a daughter, Sharon Lynn Danielle Long of the home; two sons, Eric Ray Norris and Samuel Devon Long, both of the home; two brothers, James Ralph Long and Ralph Long Jr., both of Whiteville; two sisters, Maxine Canady of Whiteville, and Josephine Hayes of Crusoe.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
CERRO GORDO Mollie Hammond Whitehead, 89, died Monday in Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was the widow of Jack Whitehead and the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Esther Jenkins Hammond. She was also predeceased by a son, Gale Whitehead.
Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Howard Fowler officiating. Interment will follow in the Gowan Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by a daughter, Judy W. Bowen and her husband, Mitchell; a son, Johnny L. Whitehead and his wife, Sylvia; a daughter-in-law, Betty Jo Whitehead of Chadbourn; a sister, Gladys Blackwell of Winston-Salem; a brother, Owen Hammond of Fair Bluff; six grandchildren, Jackie Williams, Michael Whitehead, Jason Whitehead, Kristie Priest, Janna Futrell, and Kevin Bowen; nine great-grandchildren, David, Leanna, Larramie, Garron, Jarrett, Ashlyn, Alyssa, Jake, and Ty; four great - great - grandchild-ren, Hailey, Austin, D.J., Kayla, Alisa.
Pallbearers will be Michael Whitehead, Jason Whitehead, Kevin Bowen, David Whitehead, Roger Hammond, Elisha Hinson, Edward Hammond, and Andy Hammond.
CHADBOURN Billy Lee Williamson, 70, died Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at Columbus Regional Healthcare.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn.
