| East Columbus pounds Pender BURGAW Caleb Andrews and Mark Brisson each had four hits each Tuesday night in helping led the East Columbus Gators to a 20-4 Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference baseball victory over the host Pender Patriots. The Gators led 10-1 after two inning and 18-1 in the fourth as they claimed their first conference victory of the season. The game was halted in the fourth inning by the 10-run rule. Jonathan “Earl” Reaves was the winning pitcher. He allowed four hits while striking out 10 batters. Andrews had two doubles and Brisson had one double for the Gators, who also got a triple by Demetrius McKelvie. Alex Sasser had three hits while Reaves, Cameron Spears and Alex Williamson had two hits each. The Gators finished with 20 hits. While East Columbus’ conference record improved to 1-3, Pender’s league mark dropped to 0-5. Coach Karl Bracey’s East Columbus squad played host to Wallace-Rose Hill Wednesday night in a non-conference game, and the Gators will travel to play Waccamaw Conference rival South Brunswick Friday night at 7.
