CAMDEN, S.C. Memorial services for Samuel James Bright, 64, will be held Saturday, Aug. 19 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Frank Griffith officiating at Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church.
Bright died Wednesday, July 26, 2006. Born Aug. 24, 1941 in Whiteville. He was a son of the late Ralph and Bessie Prease Bright. He had retired from DuPont Company and was a graduate of North Carolina State University, Class of 1963, and a member of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betsy McNinch Bright; children, Samuel James (Lori) Bright Jr. of Richmond, Va., Harold McNinch (Michelle) Bright of Macon, Ga.; grandsons, Luke Bright, Grady Bright and Owen Bright; granddaughters, Gabbi Bright and Emma Bright; sister, Katie (Bob) Dalton; sisters-in-law, Rebie Green and Jane Young; brother-in-law, Joe (Peggy) McNinch; several beloved nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church, 1206 Lyttleton Street, Camden, S.C. 29020 or the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter, 460 S. Fair Street, Camden, S.C. 29020. Kornegay Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
GREEN SEA, S.C. Gussie Strickland Duncan, 86, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006 at her home.
Duncan was a member of Grassy Bay Baptist Church where she has served as church clerk and a Sunday school teacher.
Final rites were held Tuesday, Aug. 8 at Grassy Bay Baptist Church, with the Reverends Earl Elvis and Phil Fischback officiating. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery in Nichols, S.C. Meares Funeral Home of Fair Bluff handled the arrangements.
Survivors include a son, Edward Randy Duncan of Green Sea, S.C.; three daughters, Sarah Frances Duncan Lewis and Sadie Rae Duncan Shoe, both of Mt. Olive, S.C., and Bonnie Faye Duncan Vaught of Green Sea, S.C.; 10 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, four step - great - grandchildren, four great - great-grand-children, and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

CLARKTON Dr. Oscar M. Blanks Jr., 65, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006 at Duke University Medical Center. He was an educator, minister, and a mason.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15 at the Brunswick-Waccamaw Baptist Association Headquarters Building in Whiteville with Dr. Thurman B. Everette officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Field Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn B. Blanks; a daughter, Tonya B. Perry of Birmingham, Ala.; a son, Oscar M. Blanks III of Durham; a foster daughter, Rev. Judy Johnson of Whiteville; four sisters, Addie Mae Haggens and Sophia Pierce of Fayetteville, Shirley Brown and Madeline Williams, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers, John Blanks of Philadelphia, Pa., and Sidney Blanks of Clarkton.
Viewing will be at the funeral Monday (today) from noon to 8 p.m. Viewing will be at the headquarters building Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time for the service. There will be no viewing after the service.

NEW YORK, N.Y. Louise Shipman Brown, 84, formerly of Whiteville, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2006 at her home in New York. She was the daughter of the late Acie and Pearl George Shipman.
Final rites were held Thursday, Aug. 10 in New York. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is announcing as a courtesy.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Brown; two daughters, Bess Parker of Bronx, N.Y., and Katie Smith of Hillside, N.J.; two sisters, Bertha Shipman of Bronx, N.Y., and Mable Glover of New York, N.Y.; two brothers, Acie Shipman of Whiteville, and Herman Shipman of Clarkton.
RIEGELWOOD Harry Sherman Woods, 64, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2006 at Durham VA Hospital. He was a veteran.
He was predeceased by his parents, Furney and Anna Belle Woods; and three brothers, Robert, Jack and Dexter Woods.
Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14 at Carvers Creek United Methodist Church with the Rev. Buddy Champion officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Maultsby Woods; a son, Romaro Woods of Delco; a daughter, Loraine Woods-Atkinson of Riegelwood; two brothers, Donald Woods of Cement, Okla., and Neil Woods of Richmond, Va.; and two sisters, Wanda Brazell of Wilmington, and Cherry Rhodes of Jacksonville; and one grandchild.

EVERGREEN Paul “Pug” Willoughby Jr., the son of the late Paul and Lucy Jane Kinlaw Willoughby Sr., was born June 2, 1925 in Columbus County. On Friday, Aug. 11, 2006 in the quiet of his home, God called his soul to eternal rest.
He was the husband of the late Magalene Smith
Willoughby, who went to be with the Lord in 2002 after 56 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Emma Stanley and Carol Blackman, and a brother, Jimmy Willoughby.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army where he served in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 13 at Boardman Baptist Church with the Rev. Hal Stephens officiating. Interment followed in the Willoughby Family Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn handled the arrangements.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Paul Willoughby III and his wife, Linda and Dennis Lee Willoughby; granddaughter and caregivers, Denise Davis and her husband, Andy; six sisters, Claire Collins, Annis Pulley, Berlyn Hair, Marilyn Newell, Bobbie Jean McDonald, and Gayle Britt; four brothers, W.C. EVERGREEN Phyllis Ivey Williamson, 71, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2006 at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was the widow of Branton Bailey “Jim” Williamson and the daughter of the late Hobson Leon and Minta Inman Ivey.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14 at Macedonia Baptist Church in Evergreen with the Rev. Vernon Williamson officiating. Interment will follow in the Williamson Family Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Ellen Williamson of Evergreen; three sons, Glenn Bailey Williamson, Hobson Leon Williamson, and Mark Branton Williamson, all of Evergreen; a brother, Ben Ivey of Evergreen; three sisters, Inita Ford of Nichols, S.C., Lillie Nance of Evergreen, and Eunice Williamson of Evergreen; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
