HORACE W. LENNON
TAYLORS, S.C. Horace W. Lennon, 87, beloved husband of Pat Lennon, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006 at his home. Born in Delco on April 22, 1919, he was the last surviving son of Quincy and Alice Pridgen Lennon.
Lennon worked for 25 years at Columbus Motor Company in Whiteville. He was a retired finishing carpenter and active at Hampton Park Baptist Church until Alzheimer’s robbed him of his ability to serve.
He was a decorated soldier from World War II serving in the Sixth Armored Division of Patton’s forces in the European Theater, which liberated Buchenwald Prison Camp. His military honors included the bronze star, two silver stars, the Croix de Guerre, and a watch from the Universal Watch Company of Geneva, Switzerland, only two of which were given to “most worthy deserving soldier” of the European theater.
More important to Lennon than his military service, was his service to God. He was an ordained minister, a deacon at Hampton Park Baptist Church, and an active supporter of their gospel outreach known as Men for Missions. He contributed to the spiritual growth of the next generation. In his son, sons-in-laws and grandsons, he has seen two become ordained ministers, two serve as deacons, and others serve as Sunday school teachers and/or as Christian educators.
Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 30 at Hampton Park Baptist Church with Dr. J. Drew Conley, and the Rev. Dr. David Yearick and Pastor Brad Lapiska officiating. Interment followed in the Woodlaw Memorial Park. The Mackey Mortuary of Greenville, S.C. handled the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pat Lennon, six children, Sherry Webb married to Jerry Webb, Karen Anderson surviving wife of Lynn Anderson, Warren Lennon married to Dawn Chapman Lennon, June Lennon, Mary Koch married to Ken Koch, and Martha Long married to John Long. Also among his survivors are 13 grandchildren, Beth Webb McClintock, Jeff Webb, Heather Lennon Marks, Jodi Lennon Payne, Stephanie Lennon, Natalie Lennon, Erik Anderson, Ashley Anderson, Curtis Long, Sara Long, Ken Koch Jr., Lauren Koch, and Abby Koch. There are also eight great-grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah, and Ben McClintock, Jenna Webb, Bayli Payne, Kyle and Alexa Marks, and Evan Long. He is preceded to heaven by a granddaughter, Audrey Koch, and a son-in-law, Lynn Anderson.
Pallbearers are Terry McClintock, Jeff Webb, Curtis Long, Erik Anderson, Ken Koch Jr., Nate Marks, and Richie Payne.
