Stallion squads fall to West Bladen

VINEGAR HILL – The West Bladen Knights took wins in both the girls and boys varsity basketball games Tuesday night at West Bladen

West Bladen boys got off to a strong start to cruise to a 75-56 win while the WB girls overcame a two-point halftime deficit to win the girls game 46-34.

The West Bladen boys, who evened their record at 1-1, scored 21 points in the first quarter and held a 39-24 halftime lead. The Knights extended the advantage to 59-36 after three quarters.

Jamel Hall led Coach Mike Cross’ Knights with 24 points, followed by M. McCall with 17 and Cruz Drake with 12.

South Columbus, whose record dipped to 2-2, got a 17-point effort by Derrick Clay. Guard Bryant Edwards scored 12 points for Coach Nathan Faulk’s Stallions.

In the girls game, South Columbus managed a 13-11 halftime lead before West Bladen battled back to take a 26-25 lead at the end of the third quarter.

West Bladen pulled away in the final quarter, going on a 20-9 tear.

Samantha Jackson scored 11 points and Keisha Gainey followed with 10 for West Bladen, which put its record at 1-1

The South Columbus girls, who suffered their fourth straight loss got 11 points from Amanda Dowe and 10 points from Kelly Strickland.

South Columbus will play Monday at West Columbus.
