JULIA RAY FORD

CERRO GORDO -- Julia Ray Ford, 86, formerly of Garner, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville. Born April 2, 1920, she was the widow of Leslie Ford.

Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Montlawn Cemetery in Raleigh. Bryan-Lee Funeral Home of Garner is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Bullard and husband Ricky of Cerro Gordo, and their children Matthew and Ashley; three sons, Dan Sanderford and wife Marie of LeHigh Acres, Fla., and their sons Danny and Ronnie; Donald Sanderford and wife Pat of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., and their son Jimmie; and Larry Sanderford and wife Sherry of Atlantic Beach and their daughter Tammy; and stepgrandchildren Scott Hayes and Lisa Hayes Schmitt.

She was predeceased by her stepdaughter Jackie Hayes.

Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home on N.C. Highway 50 in Garner.

NINA SPEARS BROWN

HALLSBORO -- Nina Spears Brown, 80, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville. She was a homemaker.

Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at New Light Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Franklin Graham officiating. Burial will follow in the Hallsboro Memorial Park. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include six daughters, Jean Brown, Mayvis Randall, and Glenda Bryant, all of Hallsboro, Blondell Morrow of St. Louis, Mont., Mary Gozan of New Rochelle, N.Y., and Johnnie Mae Wright of Aberdeen, Md.

Viewing will be at the funeral home Thursday (today) from noon until 7 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until noon. Viewing will be at the church Friday following the service.

WHITEVILLE -- Acie Shipman, 82, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at his residence.

WHITEVILLE -- Alexander King, 38, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced later by Peoples Funeral of Whiteville.

Friends may visit the family at the home of Demetrius and Karen Lowery, 125 East Third Avenue in Chadbourn.

WILLIE FOXWORTH

WHITEVILLE -- Willie Foxworth, 62, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at Sunbridge Care of Elizabethtown.

Arrangements will be announced later by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville.

JOSEPH ALTON BOSWELL

WILMINGTON -- Joseph Alton Boswell, 76, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, here. He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late Joseph Oscar Boswell and Carrie Sykes Boswell.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, Dec. 13, at the Spivey Cemetery, Tabor City, with the Rev. King Nance officiating. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.

Survivors include three sons, Randy Boswell of Wilmington, Timmy Boswell of Lake Waccamaw, and Jason Boswell of Whiteville; two daughters, Cheryl Faircloth of Wilmington, and Lisa Rogers of Hallsboro; a brother, H.C. Boswell of Boiling Springs Lake; two sisters, Myrtice Buffkin, and Geraldine Allen, both of Tabor City; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchldren.

EDITH L. EDWARDS

CERRO GORDO -- Edith L. Edwards, 80, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville. She was born in Columbus County the daughter of the late Dave and Emmie Wilson Lovett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Edwards.

Final rites were held Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Meares Funeral Home with the Rev. Elmore Strickland officiating. Burial followed in the Edwards Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Roger Dale Edwards of Cerro Gordo, and Donnie Ray “Pee Wee” Edwards of Leland; two sisters, Eunice Carter of Cumberland City, Tenn., and Barbara Bartmess of Grey’s Creek; two grandsons, and four great-grandchildren.

ANNIE BELL PARNELL HILBURN

BLADENBORO -- Annie Bell Parnell Hilburn, 81, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at her home.

Final rites were held Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Butters Baptist Church with burial following at Singletary Cemetery, Butters. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.

Survivors include five sons, Henry Marion Hilburn Jr., Samuel Hilburn, Donald Hilburn, and Horace Hilburn, all of Bladenboro, and James Hilburn of Clarkton; three daughters, Virginia Allen of Elizabethtown, Alma Hilburn and Sharon Bishop, both of Bladenboro; three brothers, William Ross Parnell of San Antonio, Texas, Hoke M. Parnell and Bobby Dale Parnell, both of Bladenboro; a sister, Melba Conklin of Wilmington; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

CALVIN BERNARD EDGE

CHARLOTTE -- Calvin Bernard Edge, 29, formerly of Fair Bluff, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at Carolina Medical Center, here.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Hickory Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Fair Bluff, with the Reverends Ervin Harper, and Thomas Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the Hickory Grove Church Cemetery, Fair Bluff. S&L Funeral Home of Fair Bluff is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include a daughter, Crystal Edge of Charlotte; three sons, Kendrick Edge, Marcus Edge, and Bryant Edge, all of Charlotte; his mother, Elizabeth Fairley Edge of Charlotte; his father, Calvin Lee Edge of Charlotte; four sisters, Sandra Mason of Fair Bluff, Lenora Andrews and Mary Elizabeth Livingston, both of Charlottte, and Alice Faye Mack of Carrington, Ga.

The family will receive friends at the home of Cindy and Fred Mason, 10702 Andrew Jackson Highway, Fair Bluff.

MARY GRAHAM KELLY

CHADBOURN -- Mary Graham Kelly, 91, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Zion Wall Freewill Baptist Church in Chadbourn with the Elder Wendell Gore officiating. Burial will follow in the Belvue Cemetery. D&A Funeral Services of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include six sons, Woodrow Graham, Albert Kelly, Alexander Kelly, Robert Kelly, Charles Kelly, Joe Samuel Kelly, all of Chadbourn; eight daughters, Louise Jackson, Margie Williams, Mildred Kelly, Elouise Mason, Hattie Kelly, Geraldine Wilson, Ida Mae Kelly, Sandra Kelly, all of Chadbourn, a brother, J.D. Graham, a sister, Bernice Clack of Chadbourn; 53 grandchildren, 114 great-grandchildren, and 54 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-5:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A wake will be held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the church.

JORDAN CUNNINGHAM McNEIL

BLADENBORO -- Jordan Cunningham NcNeil, 68, died on Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at Carrol S. Roberson Hospice Center in Fayetteville.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 at St. Luke A.M.E. Zion Church with the Rev. Ivan Morton officiating. Burial will follow in Brooklyn Memorial Gardens, Bladenboro. Smith Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include a daughter, Minister Roxie Lloyd of Bladenboro.

Viewing will be held Thursday (today) from 1-8 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

BETTIE JO GODWIN

ASH -- Bettie Jo Godwin, 59, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham. She was a homemaker.

Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at Little Prong Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Frink. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. Cary Godwin; three daughters, Natasha Godwin of Durham, Terri Godwin of Washington, D.C., and Katie Godwin of the home; a sister, Lynn Bowen of Greensboro; two brothers, Jeffery Bowen of Durham, and Kevin Bowen of Shallotte.
