OBITUARIES

KENNY LYNN

CLARKTON -- George Kenneth “Kenny” Lynn, 51, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006. He was born Feb. 19, 1955 in Newark, N.J., the son of Doris Redlich Lynn and the late James Carl Lynn. He was president of James Lynn and Son.

Final rites were held Sunday, Dec. 17, at Western Prong Baptist Church, by the Rev. Warren Hill. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Peacock’s Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Penny White Lynn; three daughters, Jennifer Lynn Bachinger and husband, Aaron of Pensacola, Fla., Holly Kerry Lynn and Kelsey Lynn, both of the home; a son, Brandon Lynn of the home; mother, Doris Redlich Lynn of Whiteville; a brother, Gregory Lynn of Whiteville; two sisters, Leslie Norris of Whiteville, and Debbie Holt of Green Sea, S.C.; uncles, Wally Lynn of Whiteville, Walter Redlich of Whitehall, Pa., and James Redlich of Woodbridge, N.J.; aunts, Dorothy Smithers of Whiteville, and Charlynne Merritt of LaVale, Md.; a special pet, Missy Lynn. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mae Pridgen Lynn.

EVERETTE GERALD
MILLIGAN

BLADENBORO -- Everette Gerald Milligan, 70, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville.

He was the owner of Milligan Music and composer for The Serenaders and many other singing groups.

Final rites were held Sunday, Dec. 17, at New Light Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church with the Reverends Ronnie Cox and McCrae Dove officiating. Burial followed in the Lewis Cemetery. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Julia Vann Milligan of the home; a son, Michael Milligan of Elizabethtown; a daughter Joy Burroughs of Whiteville; two sisters, Joan Taylor of Bladenboro, and Marie Hollingsworth of St. Pauls; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

BENNY EARL BRITT

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Benny Earl Britt, 57, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville.

Final rites were held Sunday, Dec. 17, at Shady Grove Baptist Church with the Reverends Michael Skinner and Bruce Cannon officiating. Burial followed in the Bladen Memorial Gardens, Elizabethtown. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife Rosa L. Britt of the home; a son, Teddy D. Britt of Raleigh; three brothers, Clyde Britt and Dale Britt, both of Bladenboro, and Henry Britt of Columbus, Ohio; and a sister, Aline Priest of Elizabethtown.

HENRY CLIFTON
WILLIAMS

SHALLOTTE -- Henry Clifton Williams, 87, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at his home. He was born in Sevierville, Tenn. on Nov. 29, 1919, a son of the late Jesse and Mary Mae Ray Williams. He was preceded in death by his son, Larry Blane Williams; two sisters, Dessie Long and Deloris Duncan; and one brother, Rodney Williams.

Final rites were held Saturday, Dec. 16, at Shell Point Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tommy Inman officiating. Burial followed in the Henry C. Williams Cemetery. Brunswick Funeral Services & Crematory of Shallotte handled the services.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Ward Williams; a son, Warren Williams, wife Karen, of Granbery, Texas; two daughters, Gale W. Hodges, husband Jack, of Lake Waccamaw, and Emily W. Riddle, Jerry, of Shallotte; two brothers, Jesse Williams of Shallotte, and Robert Williams of Longwood; three sisters, Esther Varnam of Supply, Grace Barnes of Lake Waccamaw, and Lina Nord of Supply; nine grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Casketbearers were Michael Hyatt Jr., Scott Hyatt, Jonathan Hyatt, Daniel Williams, Michael Leimone, Jeffrey Williams and Nicholas Williams.

ANNIE RUSS LANIER

COUNCIL -- Annie Russ Lanier, 64, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2006. She was born Oct. 29, 1942 in Columbus County, the daughter of Jessie Lee Strickland Russ and the late John H. Russ. She was the widow of the Morris Lanier. She was a member of Lisbon Baptist Church.

Final rites were held Monday, Dec. 18, at Union Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Baker officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Peacock’s Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Katherine Powell of Whiteville; her mother, Jessie L. Russ of Whiteville; a brother, John George “Butch” Russ of Whiteville; two sisters, Mary Britt of Whiteville, and Jean Turner of Charleston, S.C.; and two grandchildren.

WILLIE RAY FOXWORTH

WHITEVILLE -- Willie Ray Foxworth, 62, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at Sunbridge Care of Elizabethtown. He was a textile factory worker.

Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at Cherry Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Henry Jones Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Lennon Cemetery, Evergreen. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Foxworth; a daughter, Tonya Best of Whiteville; three sons, Elgin Foxworth of Atlanta, Ga., Darrick Foxworth of Hallsboro, and Timothy Foxworth of Greensboro; three sisters, Beulah Foxworth, Annie Ruth Lennon, and Alice Holland of Evergreen; two brothers, George Foxworth of Sacramento, calif., and William Foxworth Jr. of Sebring, Fla.

RUBY STANLEY HUGHES

CLARENDON -- Ruby Stanley Hughes, 95, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at her home. She was the daughter of the late James Council Stanley and Flora Jane Currie Stanley.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at the Clarendon Baptist Church, with interment to follow in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol H. Canady of Tabor City, and Miriam H. Berry and husband Staley of Clarendon; and a daughter-in-law, Anne W. Hughes of North Myrtle Beach, S.C. She was preceded in death by a son, S. Furnie Hughes.

She is also survived by grandchildren, G. Wayne Canady of Conway, S.C., Bonte C. Smith and husband David of Charlotte, Tammy Canady of Tabor City, Dr. S. Gray Hughes and wife Stephanie of Biloxi, Miss., Mitzie Hughes of Greenville, and great-grandchildren, Charlotte Frances Hughes and Sophie Anne Hughes, both of Biloxi, Miss.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ruby Jane Stanley Hughes Performing Arts Scholarship Fund, 700 Gardner Lacy Road, Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29579.

ALEXANDER KING

WHITEVILLE -- Alexander King, 37, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington. He was a mechanic.

Final rites will be held at noon Tuesday, Dec. 19, at First St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. James Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Capricious King; a daughter, Shanae Selby of Camden, N.J.; eight sisters, Geraldine Riddick, Helen Clay, Berlene Harris, and Dolly Long, all of Camden, N.J., Carolyn Asbury and Mabel Blowe, both of Norfolk, Va., Dorothy Wilds of New York, N.Y., and Christine Williams of Warner Robins, Ga.; five brothers, Lewis Henry King Jr. of Chesapeake, Va., Odell King of Norfolk, Va., William King of California, Robert King of Camden, N.J., and Jerome King of Charlotte.

Viewing will be at the funeral home Monday (today) from noon until 7 p.m. and Tuesday from 9-10 a.m. Viewing will be at the church Tuesday from 11 a.m. until noon, and there will be no viewing after the service.

Friends may visit the family at the home of Demetrius and Karen Lowery, 125 East Third Avenue, Chadbourn.

ROGERS

FAIR BLUFF -- Ella Washington Rogers, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by S&L Funeral Home of Fair Bluff.

The family will receive friends at the home of Queenie Washington, 70 Bruce Street, Fair Bluff.

PITTMAN

EVERGREEN -- Junious W. “Buddy” Pittman, 84, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville. He was a United States Army veteran and tobacco warehouse foreman.

Final rites were held Sunday, Dec. 17, at Mt. Horeb AME Church with the Rev. Tony Mills officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Community Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Anzalene Pittman; three daughters, Ann Hill of Whiteville, Rita Flynn of Miami, Fla., and Letitia Pittman of Evergreen; six sons, Derrick Pittman of Evergreen, William Pittman of Lake Waccamaw, Robert Lee Shipman of Clarkton, Percell Benjamin of Chadbourn, Douglas Pittman of Newark, N.J., and Curtis McClain of Washington, D.C.; four sisters, Leola Thompson of Raleigh, Ruby Moody and Mamie Shipman, both of Evergreen, and Nettie Webb of Wilmington.

WOODROW WARD

WHITEVILLE -- Woodrow Ward, 69, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006. He was born March 26, 1937 in Columbus County son of the late Cutler Ward and Mamie Jones Ward.

Ward was in the electric motor business in Whiteville for more than 49 years. He owned and operated W&W Electric Motor Company. He attended Home Believers Fellowship Church and Abundant Life Assembly of God.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines with the Reverends Wayne Murray, Jerry Spivey, and Wilbur Fipps officiating. Interment will follow in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park. Peacock’s Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Pearl Watts Ward; two sons, James Richard Ward Sr., and Robert Dale Ward, both of Whiteville; a brother, Vernon Ward of Whiteville; four sisters, Rilda Hardee and Betty Faye Beking, both of Nakina, Geneva Robinson of Burnsville, and Annie Mae Cartrette of Brunswick; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Lonnie, Roosevelt, Roland, and Herbert Ward.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at the funeral home.

ACIE SHIPMAN

WHITEVILLE -- Acie Shipman Jr., 82, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at his residence. He was a United States Army veteran and a tire factory worker.

Final rites were held Sunday, Dec. 17, at the Brunswick-Waccamaw Baptist Association Building with Pastor Carlos Shipman officiating. Burial followed in the George Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Annie E. Shipman; two sons, Jimmy Hardee of High Point, and Keith Ervin of Whiteville; two sisters, Bertha Shipman and Mable Glover, both of Bronx, N.Y.; and a brother, Herman Shipman of Clarkton.

MARY KATHRYN GORE
FAULK

TABOR CITY -- Mary Kathryn Gore, Faulk, 77, of the Dulah community, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at her residence. She is preceded in death by her husband, James C. Faulk Sr. and her parents, Oscar Craven Gore, and Eunice Reeves Gore.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Dulah Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include three sons, Weldon and James Faulk Jr., both of Tabor City, and Rev. Wayne Faulk of Whiteville; a daughter, Kathy Sing of Tabor City, a sister, Octavia Davis of Wilmington; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by a daughter, Selma Nobles.

Visitation will be held Monday (tonight) from 7-9 at the funeral home.

JOEL AMOS MOORE

WHITEVILLE -- Joel Amos Moore, 31, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, in Columbus County. He was a carpenter.

Final rites were held Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Union Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Annette McKoy officiating. Burial followed in the Mitchell Field Cemetery. Union Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.

Survivors include a daughter, Meniyah Monique Shipman; his mother, Beverly Maloney, and a sister, Trenda Bowden.

ANNIE BELL PARNELL
HILBURN

BLADENBORO -- Annie Bell Parnell Hilburn, 81, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at her home.

Final rites were held Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Butters Baptist Church with burial following at Singletary Cemetery, Butters. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.

Survivors include five sons, Henry Marion Hilburn Jr., Samuel Hilburn, Donald Hilburn, and Horace Hilburn, all of Bladenboro, and James Hilburn of Clarkton; three daughters, Virginia Allen of Elizabethtown, Alma Hilburn and Sharon Bishop, both of Bladenboro; three brothers, William Ross Parnell of San Antonio, Texas, Hoke M. Parnell and Bobby Dale Parnell, both of Bladenboro; a sister, Melba Conklin of Wilmington; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

GRACE SMITH JESSUP

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Grace Smith Jessup, 91, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at her residence. She was a retired beautician.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church with burial following in the Old Trinity Cemetery, Elizabethtown. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include her spouse, Roy Malcolm Jessup.

The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 18 from 1-2 p.m. at the church activity center.
Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice of Elizabethtown or Elizabethtown Presbyterian Parlor Fund, Elizabethtown.

FAIR BLUFF -- Lizzie Goodman, 77, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center in Wilmington.
