RED SPRINGS – Chaz Everette scored 25 points and figured prominently in a second-half uprising that spurred the West Columbus Vikings to a 69-47 Southeastern 1A-2A Conference basketball victory Friday over the host Red Springs Red Devils.

West Columbus trailed 22-19 at halftime before coming back out in the second half to light up the scoreboard for 50 points. The victory put the Vikings’ record in conference play at 2-1 and they improved to 7-2 overall.

Mikey Bilal added 15 points for Coach Michael Powell’s WCHS squad, which was still trying to shake off the effects of Tuesday’s conference loss to West Bladen. Everette, Bilal and Chris Smith each had a 3-point basket for the Vikings.

William Jackson led Red Springs scorers with 12 points and Sameer Jackson had 10 as the Red Devils’ conference record slipped to 1-2.

The unbeaten Red Springs girls teams downed the Lady Vikings 64-19 with Tasha Leggett bucketing 13 points for the Lady Red Devils. The RSHS girls now have a 9-0 record, including a 3-0 conference mark.

Brittany Bradford scored five points for West Columbus, followed by Samantha Blackwell with four. The Lady Vikings are 0-3 in conference and 1-8 overall.

West Columbus will play host to East Columbus tonight with a big rematch on tap in the boys game. In their earlier meeting at East Columbus, West Columbus claimed a 64-62 victory when Everette drained a 25-foot shot at the buzzer.
