Pender boys claim wins BURGAW The Whiteville High girls improved its season record to 7-0 and the WHS boys team saw its Waccamaw Conference record slip to 0-2 in Friday night high-school basketball action against the host Pender Patriots. The Whiteville girls rallied for 23 third quarter points to claim a 66-58 win over the lady Patriots. Talena Faison led Coach Dudley Revels’ Lady Wolfpack scorers with 19 points while Karmen Jordan had 12. Paige McCallum and Portia Baldwin had 11 each. Baldwin connected on 6-of-6 free-throw attempts in the game’s final minutes to help seal the win. Pender, which led 33-30 at halftime and 46-43 after three quarters, was led by Latasha Holmes and Janetta Robinson, each with 18 points. The Whiteville boys, coming off a big Thursday night win over East Bladen, saw its season record slip to 0-2 as they fell to the Patriots 59-54 after trailing 39-25 at halftime. Aaron Clark had 22 points, including three 3-point goals for the Wolfpack and Nur Abdullah had 18. Rayford Hankins tossed in 22 points to lead Pender as the Patriots put their conference record at 2-0. James Carter followed with 10 points. The Whiteville teams will play host to East Bladen tonight. GIRLS GAME
