Stallions fall
to NMB teams

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The South Columbus High boys basketball team suffered its fifth straight loss, and the SCHS girls team saw a two-game winning streak snapped Friday night when they ventured into South Carolina to take on North Myrtle Beach.

North Myrtle Beach dominated the boys game 60-34 while the NMB girls took a narrow 42-40 victory.

North Myrtle Beach, paced by Doug Edge’s 25 points, built a 29-13 halftime lead. Levon Evans tallied 13 points for the Chiefs, who claimed their second win of the season over the Stallions.

Bryant Edwards was high scorer for South Columbus with 11 points. Derrick Clay and Romaine Vereen followed with eight each as the Stallion record fell to 2-5.

South Columbus made a big final quarter rally in the girls game but still came up short. North Myrtle Beach used a 23-point third quarter to gain a 37-23 lead after three quarters. However, the Lady Stallions stormed back with 17 points in the fourth quarter.

Kaitlyn Thompsons scored 15 points for the Lady Chiefs, followed by Leslie Morse with 10.

South Columbus sophomore center Amanda Dowe collected a game-high 17 points and Yolanda McCoy had 10. The Lady Stallions now have a 2-5 record.
