East Columbus squads turn back Scorpions
LAKE WACCAMAW The East Columbus High School boys basketball team scored 26 points in the final quarter to rally past the visiting North Brunswick Scorpions 61-52 in a Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference basketball game. East Columbus also won the girls game 50-31. With senior Jerry Moore scoring a game-high 25 points while collecting seven rebounds and seven assists, Coach Clarence Ganus’ ECHS boys squad overcame 42-35 third quarter deficit to put its season record at 2-0. The defending Waccamaw Conference champion Gators also 13 points from B.J. Patrick and Jermaine Waddell grabbed four rebounds as the ECHS boys record improved to 8-2. North Brunswick’s balanced scoring attack was led by T. Cobb with 11 points and K.C. Wright and K. Bress with 10 each. The Scorpions are now 1-1 in conference play. The score at halftime was knotted at 31-all. East Columbus managed only four points in the third quarter. Shaquanna Bress and T.T. Bennett each hit three 3-point goals in the ECHS win. Bress finished with 21 points and Bennett had 15 for Coach Karlyn Stephens’ Lady Gators, who improved to 1-1 in conference and 3-7 overall. Jasmine Young added 10 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots for East Columbus, which held North Brunswick scoreless in the final quarter. Bennett had eight assists. L. McNeill led North Brunswick scorers with 11 points as the Lady Scorpions slipped to 0-2 in the conference. GIRLS GAME
