Wolfpack takes non-conference victories over East Bladen

ELIZABETHTOWN – Nur Abdullah and Paige McCallum each scored 25 points for their respective Whiteville High School basketball teams as they defeated host East Bladen Tuesday night in a pair of non-conference basketball games.

Abdullah paced the Wolfpack boys to a 58-54 win while McCallum led the WHS girls to a 55-52 victory in a battle of unbeaten teams.

The Whiteville boys scored 22 fourth-quarter points to overtake the Eagles after trailing 23-22 at half and 39-36 after three quarters. Chris Grant had seven points for the Wolfpack, which got its second win of the season. Nine WHS players contributed to the scoring total.

Mike-Mike Smith scored 24 points for East Bladen and Jeffrey Bryant had 12.

The Whiteville girls pulled out their win after falling behind 14-7 in the first quarter and 26-23 at the half. The Lady Wolfpack gained the lead in third quarter when they outscored the EBHS girls 17-11. Portia Baldwin joined McCallum in double figures with 15 points.

Jatoya Kemp scored 24 points a Kayla Davis followed with 15 for The Lady Eagles, who were handed their first loss of the season.

East Bladen will play at Whiteville tonight in a rematch.
