SHALLOTTE -- Leon Cameron Norris Jr., 74, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006 at his home. He was born in Brunswick County on Jan. 29, 1932, a son of the late Leon Cameron Sr. and Oleta Bennett Norris.
Norris served as a maintenance supervisor at Federal Paper Company for 39 years. He was also a United States Army veteran. He was an active member of Brunswick Islands Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and numerous other positions.
He also served the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina as a State Lay Renewal Coordinator for three terms, State Homeland Mission Coordinator for two terms and coordinated over 200 Lay Renewals in churches. In the North Carolina Baptist Men, Norris was a board member and Layman of the Year for 1983. He was a lay speaker in many churches and an avid traveler.
Final rites were held Saturday, Dec. 23 at 2 p.m., in the Brunswick Islands Baptist Church, Supply, the Reverends David Stratton and Larry Knowles officiated. Burial followed in the Bennettown Cemetery. Brunswick Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
He is survived by two sons, Leon Cameron Norris III, wife Beverly and Ryan Keith Norris, wife Donna, all of Leland; a sister, Norma “Nan” Thomas, husband Jackie, of Ash; a brother, Gene Bennett Norris, wife Barbara, of Dunn; four grandchildren, Leon Cameron Norris IV, Dana Blake Norris, Meagan Elizabeth Norris, and Ryan Keith Norris Jr., all of Leland; a special friend and caregiver, Brenda W. Strickland of Tabor City.
Casketbearers were Keith Norris, Blake Norris, Cameron Norris IV, Phil Norris, Steve Norris, and Buddy Norris. Honorary casketbearers were Bobby Rockwell, John David Dawson, Bill Whisant, Rex Everhart, Fred Simmons, John Howard Ward, Bill Ward, and Frankie Bradley.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Brunswick Islands Baptist Church, 1672 Mount Pisgah Road, SW, Supply, N.C. 28462.
FAIR BLUFF -- Aubrey June Waddell Jr., 77, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006 in an automobile accident. He was born on March 25, 1929 in Fair Bluff. He was the son of the late Aubrey June Waddell Sr. and Reba Cole Waddell.
He graduated from Fair Bluff High School and Oak Ridge Military Academy. He served in the North Carolina National Guard, and was retired from Liggett and Myers Tobacco Company.
Final rites were held Saturday, Dec. 23, at Meares Funeral Home in Fair Bluff with Dr. Ray Lundy and Dr. Floyd Enzor officiated. Burial followed in the Powel Cemetery. Meares Funeral Home of Fair Bluff handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Frances Ayres Waddell of the home; daughters, Julia Louise Waddell Nales, her husband Jack and children Rachel and Robert Allen of Angier; Helen Ayres Waddell Nygaard, her husband Grant and son Tanner of Rowland; a sister, Martha Waddell Joyce and husband, Sam of Raleigh; four nieces and a grand-niece. He was predeceased by a brother, George Wilton Waddell in May 2006.

MILES WILLIAMS
CHADBOURN -- Evelyn Deloris Miles Williams, 58, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington.
Final rites were held Sunday, Dec. 24, at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, Cerro Gordo, with the Reverends Kevin Bellamy and Gordon Griffen officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Tabor Memorial Gardens, Cerro Gordo. S&L Funeral Home of Fair Bluff handled the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Lee Williams Jr. of the home; two sons, Rodney Otis Williams and Rev. Robert DeLeon Williams Sr., both of Whiteville; her mother, Gladys Miles of Lake Waccamaw; five sisters, Marcella Vereen of Cerro Gordo, Joyce Jones, Angelyn Sasser, both of Fair Bluff, Sarah Cobbs of Whiteville, and Deborah McIntyre of Chadbourn; five brothers, Solomon Miles and Ervin Miles, both of Washington, D.C., Reginald Miles of Philadelpha, Pa., Leory Gauase of Raleigh, and Jerry Gause of Clarksville, Va., and four grandchildren.
WINSTON-SALEM -- Robert Nathan Simmons, 23, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006.
He was the son of Lynn and Ann Simmons, now of Winston-Salem and former residents of Whiteville, and was the grandson of Margaret Hicks of Whiteville.
A memorial service will be held Jan. 13 in Winston-Salem.
In addition to his parents and grandmother, Robert is survived by his sisters, Jennifer Trahan of Clemmons; and two brothers, Chris Simmons of Mocksville and Michael Simmons of Rock Hill, S. C.
SALISBURY -- Sandy Benjamin White, 44, died while on the job near Asheville. Born Dec. 6, 1962 in Whiteville, he was the son of the late Claire Dexter White and Mary Miller White. A sister, Tressie White preceded him in death.
He was a driver for UPS for the last 20 years when he started in the feeder trucks moved to packages and returned to the feeder trucks. He was a faithful member of the Salisbury Christian Fellowship, where he served as a usher and member of the sound production team.
Final rites were held on Saturday, Dec. 23, at the Salisbury Christian Fellowship Church, with the Rev. Dr. Don Vess officiating. Burial followed in the Rowan Memorial Park Cemetery. Summersett Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Shelia Nance White; daughters, Elizabeth White of Rockwell, and Ashton White, and a son, Clay White, all of the home; five sisters, Marion McWorter, Onalaska, Texas, Nancy Pearsall of Riegelwood, Clarie McQueen and Tammy Lynn, both of Whiteville, Penny Lynn of Clarkton; brothers, Phil White and Larry White, both of Wilmington, and Beverley White of Whiteville.
