set to open on Wednesday

The Fifth East Columbus Holiday Basketball Tournament will be held Wednesday and Thursday at the ECHS gym with the host Gator boys and girls team hoping to defend their respective tournament championships.

Just like last year, boys and girls teams from South Columbus, South Robeson and Loris, S.C. will make up the remainder of the field.

Wednesday’s first-round play will open at 3 p.m., with a girls game between South Columbus and Loris. At 4:30, there will be a boys game between South Columbus and Loris.

The East Columbus and South Robeson girls will clash at 6, followed by an East Columbus-South Robeson boys match-up at 7:30

In Thursday’s second-day of action, the losers of Wednesday’s first-round girls games will meet at 3 for third place. The losers of Wednesday’s boys game will play their third place game at 4:30.

Championship round games will begin at 6 with the winners of Wednesday’s girls game squaring off, followed at 7:30 by the winners of Wednesday’s boys games.

The East Columbus boys team has an 8-3 record while the Gator girl squad is 4-7. The Gator boys are the defending Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference champions and currently hold a 2-0 record in conference play.

Both the South Columbus girls and boys teams have 2-5 records. The South Robeson girls are sporting a 5-3 mark while the Mustang boys team is 1-7.

The Loris boys and girls teams each have records of 3-4.
