CERRO GORDO -- L.C. Greene, 74, went to be with the Lord in the presence of family on Friday, Dec. 1, 2006. He was the son of the late Wade and Minnie Morgan Greene. L.C. was born Sept. 11, 1932 in Columbus County. He is preceded in death by brothers, Ed, Reuben, Eugene, and Rudolph (Pudgy) Greene and a sister, Christine Smith.
L.C. was a beloved husband and a devoted father. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and served as teacher, deacon, and choir director for many years. Greene was a lifetime farmer in the Cedar Grove Community. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed being surrounded by them.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Cerro Gordo, with the Reverends Howard Fowler and Vernon Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in the Greene Family Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia, and daughters, Cyndi Williamson of Cerro Gordo, and Cheryl Clark and her husband, Jack of Wilmington; grandchildren, Cari Jordan Williamson of Cerro Gordo, Ashley Morgan, Erica Layne, and Jack Ryan Clark; a great-grandson, Joseph Dylan; five sisters, Eloise Thornton of Raleigh, Lois McKinney of Lake Norman, Shelby Hill, Carolyn Thompson, Patsy Greene; and a brother, Jimmy Greene, all of Cerro Gordo.

CARTERVILLE, Ill. -- Darryl “Cow Man” Conner, 46, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, at Sih Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, Ill. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Conner Sr.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Dec. 3, at Bladen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Cannon officiating. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Toni Conner of the home; a daughter, Marinda Riecan of the home; his mother, Josephine “Kitten” Conner of Bladenboro; five brothers, Roy Conner Jr., Glen Conner, Morris Conner, Guy Childress, and David Childress, all of Bladenboro; two sisters, Faye Hester of Bladenboro, and Lori Ann Conner of Bladenboro; and two grandchildren.

CLARKTON -- Omie Thompson Wiggins, 81, of the Mt. Calvary community, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville. A native of Columbus County, she was the daughter of the late Edward D. and Smithie Babson Thompson, and the widow of Joseph Arthur Wiggins.
Final rites were held Monday, Dec. 4, at Mt. Calvary Original Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Garland Suggs officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn handled the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Danny Wiggins and his wife, Brenda, and J.C. Wiggins and his wife, Linda, all of Clarkton; four daughters, Peggy Nance and Vicky Packer, both of Clarkton, Jannette Brown of Carolina Beach, and Lisa Britt of Evergreen; seven grandchildren, Missy W. Nance, Logan Britt, Angela Aydell, Heath Packer, Darryl Nance, Joseph Packer, and Seth Britt; three great-grandchildren, Haven Nance, Devin Wiggins, and Evan Nance.
FAIR BLUFF -- Earl Junior Harmon, 71, formerly of Whitmire, S.C., died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville.
Final rites will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Fair Bluff, with the Rev. Thomas Register officiating. Burial will follow in Butler Branch Community Cemetery, Fair Bluff. S&L Funeral Home of Fair Bluff is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Mae Kate Harmon of the home; two daughters, Jackie Powell of Memphis, Tenn. and Linda Shipman of Fair Bluff; two sons, Michael Harmon of Miami, Fla., and Terry Harmon of the home; seven brothers, Raleigh Eady of Nichols, S.C., Donnie Shell of Columbia, S.C., Cleophus Shell and Michael Shell of Whitmire, S.C., Billy Robert Shell, David Shell, and Leon Shell Jr., all of New York; three sisters, Emma Jean Cannon of Raleigh, Brenda Briggs of Whitmire, S.C., and Betty Sanders of New York; eight grandchildren, one adopted grandson, and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at the funeral home from 1-7 p.m.
The family will receive friends at 145 Evans Street, Fair Bluff.
RIEGELWOOD -- Gennie R. Brown, formerly of the Armour community, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington.

CHADBOURN -- Marie Shepherd Powers, 86, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Bessie Benton Shepherd and the widow of Lonnie Powers.
Final rites were held Sunday, Dec. 3, at Williamsons Crossroads Baptist Church with the Rev. Linzy Nance officiating. Interment followed in Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn handled the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Joyce Griffin and Betty P. Griffin, both of Chadbourn; brothers, E.A. Shepherd and Bobby Shepherd, both of Evergreen; a sister, Edna Shepherd of Whiteville; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
WHITEVILLE -- Craig Lee McKoy, 37, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006. He was a construction worker.
Final rites will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Love Grove Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Ronald Brown and Elder Rudolph Powell officiating. Burial will follow at Welches Creek Cemetery. Union Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, April McKoy; a son, C.J. McKoy of the home; his mother, Ottie McKoy; two sisters, Brenda McKoy, and Nancy Shipman; four brothers, Willie McKoy, Joseph McKoy, Charles McKoy, and John McKoy.

TABOR CITY -- Nellie Soles Grainger, 91, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006. She is the daughter of Manley Soles and Emma Jane Gore Soles and the widow of Keifer Grainger.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5 at Inman Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include four daughters, Dixie Grainger Price of Florence, S.C., Priscilla Christensen of Conover, Judy Willard of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Melissa Baker of Kinston; two sisters, Sue Rothermel and Ann Beck, both of Tabor City; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

BUTTERS -- Marion L. Storms, 77, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Lumberton.
Final rites were held Saturday, Dec. 2, at Bladen Funeral Home Chapel in Elizabethtown by the Rev. Bobby Winebarger. Burial followed in the Bladen Memorial Gardens, Elizabethtown. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.

ALICE ELIZABETH SMITH CLARK
CLARKTON -- Alice Elizabeth Smith Clark, 89, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville. She was the daughter of the late John Quincy Smith and Sallie Frances Caines Smith. She was the widow of Waitus Alexander Clark.
Final rites were held Saturday, Dec. 2, at the McKenzie Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Greg Packer officiating. Burial followed in the Benevolence Cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville handled the services.
Survivors include two sons, Wadus Alan Clark of Leland, and Walter Lee Clark of Clarkton; two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

WHITEVILLE -- Ernest George Odom, 85, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at his residence. He was a dry cleaning presser, and a church deacon.
Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at Central Baptist Church with the Rev. David Flowers officiating. Burial will be in the Campground Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys S. Odom; five daughters, Sonja Jean Rice of Philadelphia, Pa., Sharen Troy of Fayetteville, Karen Odom-Durant and Amaryllis Bell, both of Whiteville, and Angela Brunson of Durham; four sons, Ernest Odom Jr. of Philadelphia, Pa., Kenneth Odom of Texas, Geary Dale Odom of Chadbourn, and Kelvin Odom of Georgia; two sisters, Lottie Carmichael of Roxboro, and Novella Washington of Rowland.
Viewing will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from noon-7 p.m. and Thursday from 9-11 a.m. Viewing will be at the church Thursday following the service. There will be a wake Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

EVERGREEN -- Robert Clyde Shockley, 52, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville.

Survivors include two sons, Robbie Shockley of Lumberton, and Richard Shockley of Evergreen; a daughter, Stefanie S. McKeller of Lumberton; his parents, Rufus and Carolyn S. Shockley of Evergreen; a sister, Teresa S. Wooten of Evergreen; and four grandchildren.
TABOR CITY -- Martha Gloria Vample, 81, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2006, at Loris Community Hospital, Loris, S.C. She was the daughter of the late Matthew and Gussie Chestnut.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Loris, S.C. Westside Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
Survivors include three sisters, Cargenia Stewart, Mary McClaine, and Edna Price, all of Tabor City; and a brother, Rev. Solomon Chestnut of Loris, S.C.
TABOR CITY -- Martha Johnson, 84, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove, Wilmington.

WHITEVILLE -- Frances Jones Isler, 91, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, at Premier Living in Lake Waccamaw. She was a teacher.
Final rites were held Sunday, Dec. 3, at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Algernon McKenzie officiating. Burial followed in the Millican Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.
Survivors include a sister, Evelyn Beal of Bronx, N.Y.
