Wolfpack teams bump West Bladen

The Whiteville Wolfpack dominated second- and third-quarter play and withstood a 30-point West Bladen onslaught in the fourth quarter as it claimed a 67-63 non-conference boys basketball victory over the visiting Knights.

It marked the first win for new WHS coach Tyrone Frink as the Wolfpack evened its record at 1-1.

Whiteville led 33-23 at the half and held a 53-33 advantage after three quarters. Frink played reserves for most of the final quarter as West Bladen battled its way back into striking distance.

Nur Abdullah scored 16 points and Sprandon Mahoney tallied 14. Mahoney had three, 3-point goals for the night and guard Harrison Jordan added two 3-pointers to finish with nine points. Chris Grant had 12 points and Alex Royal tallied 11 for WHS.

C. Drake had 21 points for West Bladen, including 14 in the final quarter.

Whiteville ran to an easy 71-29 victory in the girls game.

Junior Paige McCallum poured in 25 points and senior Talena Faison scored 21 as the Coach Dudley Revels’ Lady Wolfpack put its record at 2-0. Ten WHS players provided points in the victory.

Whiteville will travel to play West Columbus on Tuesday.
