Vikings dump E. Bladen

ELIZABETHTOWN –Mikey Bilal scored 21 points and handed out nine assists and Willie Smith had a whopping 19 rebounds and 11 points Tuesday in helping lead the West Columbus Vikings to a 75-68 Southeastern 1A-2A Conference basketball win over the host East Bladen Eagles.

It was the fourth straight conference win for West Columbus, which put its season record at 15-3, including a 6-3 mark in conference play.

West Columbus, which had fallen to the Eagles in their earlier meeting, led 43-31 at halftime and led by as much as 19 in the second half. The Vikings hit 11 of 13 foul shots in the fourth quarter to fend off a late EBHS comeback surge.

“We played hard,” said Viking coach Michael Powell. “We’re doing a better job than we were after coming off the holiday break. This was a big win for us tonight.”

Zack Andrews bucketed 18 points and Chaz Everette had 17 for West Columbus, which was playing its final regular-season away game. Andrews and Everette had seven steals each for the Vikings, who got a big boost toward attaining the conference’s top 1A playoff seed with the win.

Mike Smith tallied 30 points for East Bladen, which now has a conference record of 6-4.

East Bladen dominated the girls game 79-23. The Lady Eagles’ Dorothy Corbett led all scorers with 23 points. Whitney Baker had 16 for West Columbus. East Bladen led at halftime 36-7 as it put its conference record at 9-1.
