Patriots sweep South Columbus

VINEGAR HILL – The visiting Pender Patriots tallied 29 points in the final quarter Tuesday night in taking a 78-61 Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference basketball win over the South Columbus Stallions.

Dedric Stringfield’s 34 points led the way for the Patriots, who put their conference record at 6-4. Daniel Ivey aided the Pender cause with 18 points.

South Columbus, which had defeated the Patriots in their first conference meeting, suffered its sixth straight loss as it slipped to 3-6 in conference play and 6-10 overall. Brandon Keel led Stallions scorers with 23 points and Bryant Edwards had 11.

Pender led 30-27 at the half and held a 49-42 lead after three quarters before taking complete charge in the final eight minutes.

The Pender girls bounced back from a two-game losing streak to defeat the Lady Stallions 49-33

Muriel Seabrooks led the Lady Patriots with 17 points with Janetta Robinson and Jasmine Corbett each scoring eight points. The Pender girls are now 7-3 in the conference with a big conference showdown with East Columbus looming Friday night.

For South Columbus, Amanda Dowe had 11 points and Web Graham scored 10. The lady Stallions are 2-7 in conference play and 3-13 overall.

South Columbus, which played West Brunswick on Wednesday, will travel to play South Brunswick Friday.
