Middle school champs

| Whiteville’s Central Middle School boys and girls basketball teams came away with championships of their respective divisions of the Hallsboro Invitational Tournament at Hallsboro. Both teams took victories over Hallsboro in Thursday’s championship rounds. It marked the third straight tournament title for the Central boys, who closed their season with a 14-1 record, and it was the fourth tournament title in five years for the Central girls squad, which finished the season at 15-0. Hallsboro Middle School has played host to the tournament for 14 years.
