ASH A. Lindburgh King Sr., 71, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006 in Columbus Regional Healthcare.
He was born June 22, 1934 in Brunswick County, the son of the late V. Bailey and Ivy Babson King.
He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines in Whiteville.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma Dutton King; four sons, Michael Jeffery King of Holden Beach, Marshall D. “Tab” King, A.L. King Jr., and R. Evan King, all of Ash; two daughters, Edna King Dowless, and Sonya King Peacock, both of Whiteville.

TABOR CITY Thurman “Jack” Cartrette, 70, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006 at Columbus Regional Healthcare.
He was the son of the late Clarence and Martha Richardson Cartrette. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Kay Frances Tyler Cartrette; a son, Randy Biship Cartrette, and a brother, James Clarence Cartrette.
Cartrette retired from National Spinning after 30 years in 1994, operated Randy’s Grill, and worked with Kaieser-Roth of Lumberton.
Final rites were held Tuesday, Feb. 22 at Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church. The Rev. William Jackie Godwin officiated. Interment followed in the McPherson Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn handled the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn I. Garrell Cartrette of the home; a son, Mickey Lynn Cartrette and his wife, Tammy of Green Sea, S.C.; two daughters, Taffy Renee Cartrette, and Kimberly Kay Cartrette, both of Tabor City; two step-daughters, Karen Garrell Register of Whiteville, and Glenda Garrell Elkins of Clarkton; a step-son, Darrell Garrell of Chadbourn; three sisters, Lucille C. Sellers of Whiteville, Cecil C. McCumbee of Tabor City, and Brenda C. Creech of Thomasville; two brothers, Jerry Frederick Cartrette, and Herman Allen “Joe” Cartrette, both of Whiteville; seven grandchildren, Jeanne Stephens, Magon McKeithan, Jerad Inman, Jordan Sbardella, Brooke Cartrette, Dustin Presnell, and Kristain Chester; two great-grandchildren, Bry-anna McKeithan and Ragon McKeithan; eight step-grandchildren, and five step-great-grand-children.

WHITEVILLE Horace Rudolph Burnett, 75, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He retired from the United States Coast Guard and was a public school custodian.
Final rites with full military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at St. Mark AME Zion Church by the Rev. Tony Henderson. Burial will follow in the Restwell Cemetery #2 in Bolton. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Louise Burnett; five daughters, Anita “Bunky” Burnett of Whiteville, Lenora Kay Burnett and Amanda Carol Burnett of St. Petersburg, Fla., Cynthia Pearl Burnett of Landover, Md., and Amelia Sharon Lawrence of Alexandria, Va.; four sons, Kermit V. Burnett of Silver Spring, Md., Michael D. Burnett, Robert D. Burnett, and Antoine A. Burnett of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sisters, Catherine Cogdell of Whiteville, and Sarah Roberts of Washington, D.C.
Viewing will be Friday, Feb. 24 from noon to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon at the funeral home. Viewing will be at the church Saturday from 1-2 p.m., and there will be no viewing after the service.
LAKE WACCAMAW Mary Lee Faircloth Downing, 68, formerly of Bladenboro died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2006 at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was the daughter of the late Robert Scarboro and Beulah Williams Faircloth and the widow of Buddy Downing.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24 at Worthington Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Lewis officiating. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by two daughters, Martha Ann Batten of Chadbourn, and Catherine Lou Strickland of Cerro Gordo; two sons, Teddy Lee Nance of St. Pauls, and Jesse “Buddy” Batten of Chadbourn; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at the funeral home.
BLADENBORO Bobby Dale Storms, 59, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Storms.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at Center Road Baptist Church in Bladenboro with the Rev. Vernon Britt officiating. Burial will follow in New Pait Cemetery. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Taylor Storms; a son, Heath Storms of Bladenboro; two daughters, Terry Starling of Fayetteville, and Kelli Moore of Bladenboro; his mother, Vada Storms, a brother, Relmon Storms of Bladenboro; a sister, Doris Rankin, Frisco; and three grandchildren.
TABOR CITY Pink Edward “Littleman” Cogdell, 69, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006 at Loris Community Hospital. He was the son of the late Jerry and Eva Mae Cogdell.
Final rites were held Wednesday, Feb. 22 at Mitchell Sea Missionary Baptist Church in Green Sea, S.C. with the Rev. Vanzie L. Vereen delivering the eulogy and Elder Antoine Bellamy officiated. Burial followed in Hills Chapel Memorial Garden in Nichols, S.C. Westside Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
Survivors include a sister, Elmenta Butler of the home; and a brother, J.C. Cogdell of Trenton, N.J.
CHADBOURN Delane Guyton Garrell, 41, of the Beaverdam community died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006 in Duke Medical Center. She was born March 7, 1964 in Bladen County, the daughter of the Rev. John Guyton and Virginia McKee Guyton of Clarkton.
She was a Southeastern Community College graduate. She was a registered nurse. She was employed with Coastal Carolina ENT. She was formerly employed with Doctors Thigpen and Stephen Bridgers, and Loris Community Hospital. She was a member of Beaverdam Freewill Baptist Church.
Graveside service was held Wednesday, Feb. 22 at the McPherson Cemetery with the Reverends Jackie Godwin and Ray Brown officiating. Peacock’s Funeral Home in Whiteville handled the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Timmy Ray Garrell; two daughters, Allison and Clarissa Garrell of the home; her parents, Rev. and Mrs. John Guyton of Clarkton; two brothers, Marshal and Dale Guyton of Clarkton.
