Stallion girls, Titan boys take Waccamaw victories

ROCKY POINT – The Trask Titans dominated second-half play Tuesday night as they ran to an 84-56 Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference boys basketball victory over the visiting South Columbus Stallions.

Four Titan players scored in double figures, led by Eddie Boney’s 23 points and Jamel Hicks’ 20. Trask was coming off a conference loss to North Brunswick last Friday to put its conference record at 6-5 and season record at 12-11.

Trask led 37-30 at half but increased its lead to 62-44 at the end of three quarters. The Titans connected on seven 3-point shots.

Brandon Keel had 17 points for South Columbus, which suffered its seventh straight conference loss. The loss dropped the Stallions to 3-8 in conference and 7-12 overall. South Columbus traveled to play West Columbus Wednesday in a non-conference action. See result in A-section.

South Columbus won the girls game 51-40 with freshman Amanda Dowe bucketing 21 points. It was the fourth win of the season for the SCHS girls and put their conference record at 3-8. Whitney Hannah tallied seven points for the Lady Stallions, who built a 32-13 halftime lead.

Latoya Nixon had 12 points for the winless Trask girls.

South Columbus will close its regular-season schedule Friday when it entertains Whiteville.
