Whiteville High junior center Chris Wilcox scores 30 points, grabs 15 rebounds and blocks 10 shots in leading the Wolfpack to a 68-42 Waccamaw 2A Conference basketball victory over visiting South Brunswick. Wilcox goes on to pace WHS to the state 2A championship and a 27-3 season record. Three years later the 6-foot-9 Wilcox plays a big role in the University of Maryland’s NCAA championship season as the Terps turn back Indiana in the 2002 title game at Atlanta. After opting to give up his final two seasons at Maryland, Wilcox becomes the first-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Clippers, the eighth player selected overall.
