ROSALIE TUCKER RENFROW
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH & FAYETTEVILLE Rosalie Tucker Renfrow, 93, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center in Wilmington.
Renfrow was predeceased by her twin sister, Marylou Tucker Baggett on Nov. 7, 2004. She was married 66 years to her childhood friend and high school sweetheart, the late Dr. Raymond R. Renfrow, DMD, MS. She was a homemaker, an avid bridge player and played with her many friends in Fayetteville until she was 91 years old at which time she moved to Wrightsville Beach to live with her daughter. She was a birdwatcher, lover of flowers, and a member of the Camellia Society, member of DAR, and a member of Highland Presbyterian Church and a member of Highland Country Club from 1942-2004.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at Fair Bluff United Methodist Church with the Rev. Neill Smith and Dr. Jay Coker officiating. Burial will follow in the Powell Cemetery. Meares Funeral Home of Fair Bluff is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include a son, Raymond R. Renfrow Jr. of Gadsden, Ala., and a daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Renfrow of Wrightsville Beach; four grandchildren, Emmett Osborn Anglin IV, Lt. Raymond Powell Renfrow, Anne Clare Renfrow, and Rosalie Florence Renfrow.
Pallbearers will be Emmett Anglin IV, Raymond Powell Renfrow, Jim Turner, Jimmy Renfrow, Billy Renfrow, and Russell Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cape Fear Botanical Gardens, 536 N. Eastern Blvd., Fayetteville, N.C. 28301.

FAIR BLUFF William Bluford Washington, 67, formerly of Council, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 at his residence.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at Hickory Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Fair Bluff with the Rev. Ervin Harper and Evangelist Mary Galloway officiating. Burial will follow at Carvers Creek Cemetery in Council. S&L Funeral Home of Fair Bluff is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Washington of the home; a daughter, Lillian Northe of Fayetteville; a son, Donell Washington of Bronx, N.Y.; two sisters, Doris Jackson of Lumberton, and Eula Walston of Fayetteville; two brothers, George Washington of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Levander Washington of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Viewing will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 20 from 1-7 p.m.

CERRO GORDO Mickey Ray Hayes, 59, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006.
He was born in Columbus County the son of the late Lonzie K. and Orlean B. Strickland Hayes. He retired from the United States Navy.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Meares Funeral Home with the Rev. Josh Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the Cherry Grove Cemetery. Meares Funeral Home of Fair Bluff is handling the arrangements.
He is survived a son, Troy Hayes of Charleston, S.C.; a daughter, Tina Hayes of Summerville, S.C.; four brothers, William Hayes of Cerro Gordo, J.M. Hayes of Fayetteville, Norman Hayes of Brunswick, Ga., and Clemson Hayes of Center, Ala.; two sisters, Lillie Marie Fritts of Lexington, and Jill Couch of Fuquay Varina; and two grandchildren.
TABOR CITY Lynda Lou Jones, 80, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006 in Loris Hospital. She was born in Angier the daughter of the late William Paul Pope Sr. and Nellie Hudson Pope.
Final rites were held Wednesday, Jan. 18 at Tabor City Baptist Church conducted by Dr. David Coleman, Dr. James Johnson, and Rev. Roger Small. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. James Pervis Jones of Tabor City; three sons, James Ronnie Jones and wife Margaret; Dennis Dale Jones and wife Sara, all of Tabor City; Michael Kent Jones and wife Carolyn of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two daughters, Darlene Jones Cain of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., Jennifer Jones Cartrette and husband Myles of Greenville; a brother, William R. Pope of Angier; two sisters, Dottie Pope and Barbara Ann Pope, both of Angier; grandchildren, Meredith Jones Lay, James Adam Jones, Ashley Lauren Jones, Anna Jones Townsend, Catherine Collins Jones, Molly Elizabeth Jones, Charlotte Denise Jones, William Heath Cain, Nicole Cartrette Fiehler, Jennifer Beth Cartrette, and Anthony Myles Cartrette; great - grandchildren, Emma Ann Elizabeth Lay and Fred Emmitt Dunkin Lay.
She was pre-deceased by a brother, William Paul Pope Jr. and a grandson, Samuel Hudson Cain.

HALLSBORO Shirley Mae Smith Geiger, 61, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006 at Brunswick Cove Nursing Home in Winnabow. She was a county tax office employee.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at Townsend Temple First Born Church at Bolton by Pastor Lula Mae Webb and Dr. Jesse Graham. Burial will follow in Townsend Temple Memorial Gardens. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Otis Geiger; two sons, Alvin Geiger of Raleigh, and Darren Geiger of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Patricia Best of Bolton; four brothers, Ezell Smith, Clarence Smith, Theodore Smith, and Alfred Smith, all of Bolton.

BALTIMORE, Md. Charles Edward Bellamy, formerly of Chadbourn, died in Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre d Grace, Md. Friday, Jan. 13, 2006.

WHITEVILLE Wesley Elwood Ward, 60, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006 in Columbus Regional Healthcare.
Born in Columbus County on Oct. 10, 1945 he was a son of Mary Sasser Ward Turbeville of Whiteville and the late John Wesley Ward. He was predeceased by a brother, John E. Ward.
He retired from the utility construction business.
Memorial services will be conducted Friday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. at the chapel of Brunswick Funeral Service in Shallotte. Brunswick Funeral Home of Shallotte is handling the arrangements.
Survivors in addition to his mother are his brother and sister-in-law, Louis Vernon and Mary Ward of Shallotte; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Edwin Ganus of Greenwood, Wis.; several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Bertha Ward of El Paso, Texas.

WILLIAM K. PIERCE

WHITEVILLE William Kenneth Pierce, 72, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006.
He was the son of the late Ben Tillman Pierce and Aileen Shipman Pierce and was preceded in death by his wife Sarah Geraldine Potter Pierce and son, Steve Pierce.
He was a member of the Hallsboro Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19 at McKenzie Mortuary Chapel with the Reverends Ed Vogt and Joseph Russ officiating with burial following at the Cape Fear Baptist Church Cemetery at Riegelwood. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include a sister, Shelba Pierce Williamson of Hallsboro, several nieces and nephews.

WHITEVILLE Edgbert Bruno Godwin Sr., 76, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006 at Columbus Regional Healthcare.
He was the husband of the late Charity Mae Lee Godwin and the son of the late Albert Joseph and Lum Clewis Godwin. He retired from Hinson’s Cabinet Works in Whiteville and was one of the founders of the church and deacon at Campside Independent Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20 at Campside Independent Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
He is survived by two daughters, Donna G. Stanley and Denise G. Walker, both of Whiteville; two sons, Rev. Bruno Godwin Jr. and Ronnie Dale Godwin, both of Whiteville; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

WHITEVILLE Keith Hewett, 40, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006. He was born Jan. 18, 1966 in Columbus County the son of Louise McQueen Hewett of Whiteville and the late Donald Hewett.
Hewett owned and operated the Holiday Restaurant.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Saunders Hewett; a son, Joshua Hewett of the home; a brother, Jerry Hewett of Fayetteville, and his mother, Louise Hewett.
LUMBERTON Cecil James Cleveland Wharton, 99, known as “Jim T,” died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006 at Southeastern General Hospital in Lumberton.
Final rites will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. from Round Branch Baptist Church in Bladenboro with the Rev. Victor Singletary eulogizing. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will like in-state at the church one hour prior to the services. Smith Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
He is survived by his children, Daniel Strong of New York, Annie Lorena Lewis of Lumberton, Willie Rebecca Peterson of Elizabethtown, Cecil James Wharton of Lumberton, Sylvia Covington of Whiteville, and Terry Wharton of Tennessee.
Viewing will be on Friday from 1-5:30 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be a wake on Friday at the funeral home from 6-7 p.m.
