CERRO GORDO - Eleven West Columbus players contributed to the scoring last Friday night as the Vikings ran to an 86-41 non-conference basketball victory over the visiting South Brunswick Cougars.

Junior guard Chaz Everette scored 21 points and had seven assists while senior forward Zack Andrews scored 15 points. Courtney Hayes followed with 11. Guard Mikey Bilal did not score for the Vikings but he had 12 assists. The win improved the WCHS record to 12-3, including a 9-0 mark against Waccamaw Conference teams.

Coach Michael Powell’s Vikings led at halftime 42-23 as they took their second win of the season over South Brunswick. South Brunswick’s season record dropped to 2-15.

Ervin Hall scored 10 points to lead Cougar scorers.

The Vikings returned to Southeastern Conference play Wednesday night with a home game against league-leading Fairmont (see result in A-section of the printed edition).

In the girls game, South Brunswick snapped a five-game losing streak by taking a 45-31 victory over the winless Lady Vikings. Talisha Green led South Brunswick with 21 points.

West Columbus will travel to play Red Springs on Friday.
