The Whiteville High Lady Wolfpack took a giant step toward claiming their second straight Waccamaw Conference basketball championship Tuesday as it put together a strong second half to take a 65-55 road victory over Pender.

Ben Rouse scored 24 points and Dustin Williamson tallied 21 Tuesday night in leading the Waccamaw Academy boys basketball team to a 71-57 victory over visiting Flora Macdonald Academy of Red Springs.


Pack takes Monday victories over SCHS

The Whiteville Wolfpack went on an 11-2 run in the final three minutes of the first quarter and controlled the tempo the rest of the way in defeating county rival South Columbus 78-41 in a Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference basketball game at the WHS gym.


Whiteville guard Karena Jordan works the ball upfloor in the Lady Wolfpack’s recent home game with East Columbus. The WHS girls squad is carrying a 16-0 record following Tuesday night’s victory at Pender.

whip Cougars

Eleven West Columbus players contributed to the scoring last Friday night as the Vikings ran to an 86-41 non-conference basketball victory over the visiting South Brunswick Cougars.

The East Columbus girls team is currently carrying a 12-5 season record, including a 4-3 mark in conference play. East Columbus played host to conference rival North Brunswick Wednesday night (see results in A-section). Waccamaw Conference regular-season play will run through Feb. 10. East Columbus will play host to the Waccamaw Conference Tournament, which is scheduled to open on Feb. 13.
