RED SPRINGS - Trailing 36-35 after being held to seven third-quarter points, the West Columbus Vikings lit up the scoreboard for 23 points in the final quarter to pull away to a 58-47 Southeastern Conference boys basketball win over the host Red Springs Red Devils.

West Columbus, which led 28-22 at halftime, rallied for the victory that put its conference record at 5-3 and season record at 14-3.

Willie Smith scored 15 points and Mike Bilal had 13 for the Vikings, who took their third victory of the week and their second win of the season over Red Springs.

The loss dropped Red Springs’ conference record to 1-8. Cornelius Smith scored 13 points to lead the Red Devils, followed by Ratrell McLean with 10.

The Red Springs girls improved their conference record to 9-0 with a 69-22 win over the winless Lady Vikings.

Red Springs, which has an 18-1 season record, led 30-7 at halftime.

Leading the Lady Red Devil scoring attack was Janee Parker with 18 points, Cassandra Bell with 15 and Tasha Leggett with 11.

The West Columbus girls, who slipped to 0-8 and 0-17, got six points each by Whitney Baker and Brittany Parker.

West Columbus will travel to play East Bladen Tuesday.
