Five county players
earn NCPreps.com
All-State recognition

Two players from South Columbus and three from West Columbus earned spots on the recently announced 2005 NCPreps.com all-state football teams.

South Columbus defensive lineman Greg Elleby and offensive lineman Garret Ward were named the 2A All-State team. Elleby and Ward were among a strong group of seniors for the Waccamaw Conference champion South Columbus team which finished the 2005 season with a 12-2 record and a third-round berth in the state 2A playoffs.

Elleby has verbally committed to play college football for UNC-Chapel Hill.

West Columbus senior defensive lineman Ricardo Crawford, sophomore defensive back Travis Leggett and senior punter Ryan McCleney were named to the 1A All-State team. The trio help pace the Vikings to an 8-5 record, including runnerup in the Southeastern Conference and a second-round berth in the state 2A playoffs.

Crawford was also selected to NCPreps.com all-state team that included players from all four of the state’s enrollment classifications. He will play his college football for the University of Georgia.
