OBITUARIES

JOHNNY J. ALDERMAN

TABOR CITY – Johnny J. Alderman, 71, died Tuesday, July 4, 2006 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

Final rites were held Sunday, July 9, at Little Iron Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Bishop Bruce Alderman delivering the eulogy. Interment followed in the Columbus County Singing Union Cemetery in Tabor City. Westside Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include one son, James H. Alderman Sr.; one brother, Willie Alderman; three sisters, Irene Batten, Ida Mae Canty and Barbara Alderman.

LEROY LAWRENCE

CHADBOURN – LeRoy Lawrence Jr., 82, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at Duke University Medical Center.

Final rites were held Saturday, July 8, at First Baptist Church with Minister Alban Burney officiating. Burial followed in the Belvue Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.

Survivors include a daughter, Yvonne McMillian, Newport News, Va.; a sister, Maudie Singletary, Baltimore, Md. and a granddaughter.

ANNIE R. WARWICK

BLADEN – Annie Ruth Warwick, 78, died Friday, July 7, 2006 at Cape Fear Manor in Clarkton.

Final rites were held Sunday, July 9, at Bladen Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Green officiating. Bladen Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Survivors include one brother, Earl Leggett Warwick, Bladenboro and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Cape Fear Manor of Clarkton.

MAXINE J. HINSON

WHITEVILLE – Mrs. Maxine Jones Hinson, 86, died Thursday, July 6, 2006 at Liberty Commons Nursing Facility in Whiteville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, L.A. Hinson; a son, Steve Hinson; a sister Beatrice Wynes; a brother Bill Jones; and grandson Eric Silva.

Mrs. Hinson was born in Beardstown, Ill., a daughter of Anthony Alonzo and Esther Hoelscher Jones. She was a graduate of Rock Island High School in Rock Island, Ill., a prolific artist and a skilled genealogical researcher. She loved her family and was a charter member of Peace Baptist Church here.

Final rites were held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 10, at McKenzie Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Erron Hubbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include four sons, John Hinson and wife Jeanine, Key Biscayne, Fla., Sam Hinson and wife, Meg, Chadbourn, Donald Hinson and wife Margaret, Whiteville, Matt Hinson and wife, Beverly, Wilmington; three daughters, Patricia Edelkind and husband Steve, Atlanta, Ga., Molly Seibel and husband Fred, New York City, N.Y., Rebecca Hinson, Lake Worth, Fla.; one sister, Lucile McMurl, Moline Ill.; Thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Marc Silva, Brian Hinson, Alex Huba, Roy Cartrette, Edwin Russ and Sanat Shah.

CHARLES R. BLACKMON

WHITEVILLE – Charles Ray Blackmon, 65, died Thursday, July 6, 2006, at Southeastern Regional Hospital in Lumberton. He was the son of Nettie Hayes Blackmon and the late Windell Blackmon and was retired from the Whiteville Police Department.

Final rites were held Sunday, July 9, at McKenzie Mortuary Chapel with Reverends Chip Hannah and Danny Williams officiating. Burial followed in the Palmyra Baptist Church Cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville handled the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Margie Raye Wright Blackmon, Whiteville; two daughters, Lynn Worley, Tabor City and Lisa Hinson, Tabor City; one sister, Janice B. Ray, Old Dock and six grandchildren.

DURHAM – Jannie Howard, 95, formerly of Hallsboro, died Friday, July 7, 2006 at her residence in Durham.

WHITEVILLE – Eudell Long Bright Todd, 88, died Saturday, July 8, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare in Whiteville. She was the widow of Thelbert Todd and the daughter of the late James Elbert and Josephine Carroll Long.

Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, July 10, at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn with Rev. C. L. Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow in Columbus Memorial Park, Whiteville. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Lois Bright Dacus, Chadbourn and Eunice Bright Sellers, Zellwood, Fla.; a son, Jerry E. Bright, Chadbourn; step-daughters, Martha Holt, Jean Boswell, Mary Fran Smith all of Whiteville and Dale Caldwell of Carolina Beach; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

LUTHER CARSON CRIBB
Heavy equipment mechanic

CLARENDON – Luther Carson Cribb, 70, died Thursday, July 6, 2006, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

He was the son of the late Pearlie C. and Mae Cribb. Cribb was employed by Hercules Inc. as a heavy equipment mechanic.

Final rites were held Sunday, July 9, at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Karl A. Zorowski officiating. Interment followed in Bethel Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn handled the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Ruth Ward Cribb of the home; two daughters Debbie Ruth Cribb, Evergreen and Susan Cribb Todd, Loris, S.C. and three sisters, Ethel Cribb, Fair Bluff, Betty Cribb, Whiteville and Cheryl Jenson, Lakeland, Fla.

JAMES A. SAUNDERS III
Veteran

CHADBOURN – James Arthur Saunders III, 60, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at his residence.

He was the son of the late James A. Saunders Jr. and a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. He was Post Commander of District 5, Post 6064 Veterans of Foreign Wars in 1999 and 2000. He retired from DuPont as an industrial mechanic.

Final rites were held Saturday, July 8 at Worthington Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Hines officiating. Interment followed in Piney Forest Baptist Church Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn handled the arrangements.

Survivors include a son, James A. “Jamie” Saunders IV, Rocky Point; a daughter, Sonya Christine Soles, Whiteville; his mother, Theonia Fowler Saunders, Chadbourn; a sister, Gloria S. McCabe, Columbia, Tenn.; a brother, Dickie Saunders, Chadbourn and two grandchildren.

DELCO – Laura Marlowe Malpass, 85, died Saturday, July 8, 2006. She was the widow of Bernice E. Malpass and the daughter of the late Clyde and Alice Williamson Malpass.

Final rites will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 11, at Cheerful Hope Baptist Church in Delco with Rev. Elmore Strickland officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include five sons, Gilbert Collins, Lake Waccamaw, John E. Malpass, Whiteville, Clyde Malpass, Wilmington, Alvin Malpass, Mocksville and Danny Malpass of the home; a brother, Hartford Marlowe, Clarkton; a sister, Hilda Reaves, Wilmington; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Monday, July 10, at Worthington Funeral Home.

WILLIE L. WALLACE JR.

DELCO – Willie “Bill” Love Wallace Jr., 92, died Saturday, July 8, 2006, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. He was the son of the late Willie L. Wallace Sr. and Lizzie Byrd Wallace. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Dane Malpass Wallace; a brother Eunie Wallace and a sister, Wiley W. Wilkins.

Final rites will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 12, at Livingston Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Beaver officiating. Burial will follow in the Cheerful Hope Church Cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include a son, Willie T. Wallace, Delco; a sister, Lizzie Wallace Lewis, Wilmington; three brothers, Roley Wallace, Tom Wallace, both of Delco, and Dud Wallace of Wilmington; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 12, at Livingston Baptist Church from 10-10:45 a.m., prior to service.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Willie T. Wallace on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1131, Fairfax, Va., 22038-1131.

LAKE WACCAMAW –Annie Christine Dudley, 94, died Sunday, July 9, 2006, at Columbus Regional Health-care.

CALVIN HAYNES MOORE

BOLTON – Calvin Haynes Moore, 80, died Friday, July 7, 2006. He was born Nov. 6, 1925 the son of the late Millard and Lannie Mitchell Moore. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and a building contractor.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Fonnie Locklear; two brothers, Acie Moore, and Walter Lee Moore and two sisters, Georgana Pierce and Vanessa Burchell.

Final rites will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, July 14, at Mt. Sinai Holiness Church with Reverends Don Carter and Mike Jacobs officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Peacocks Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Cardie Bell Freeman Moore; three sons, Willie Moore, Bolton, David Moore, Plainfield, N.J., and Jonas Moore, Ash; three daughters, Irene Lennon, Evergreen, Faye Jacobs, Bolton, and Chris Strickland, Wilmington; two brothers, John Henry Moore, Plainfield, N.J., and Luther Moore of Freeman; three sisters, Martha Jones, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Beatrice Moore, East Orange, N.J., and Mary White, New Castle, Del.; 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
