The 36th District 2 Dixie Youth Baseball Tournament for players ages 11 and 12 will be held July 15-19 at Old Dock’s Thurman Ward Memorial Field.

The Nakina DY League will serve as tournament host.

The event will include a four-team double-elimination tournament with the winner receiving a berth in the 2006 North Carolina Dixie Baseball Tournament set for July 29-Aug. 5 at Red Springs. There will also be a three-team double-elimination from supplemental teams.

The major-league tournament will open July 15 at 6 p.m. with defending champion Whiteville Optimist going against Bladen County. Host Nakina will take on Columbus at 8.

Supplemental tournament play will open July 15 with Columbus County meeting Bladen County at 4 p.m. Bladen County will meet Whiteville on July 16 at 4 and Columbus Cunty will take on Whiteville on July 17 at 6. The champinship round will be held July 18 at 6 with a final game, if necessary, set for July at 6.
