EC Angels, SC Darlings
take semi-final victories

VALE - The East Columbus Dixie Angel All-Stars (ages 9-10) claimed their fourth straight victory Tuesday with a 10-7 semi-final decision over Boger City in the North Carolina Dixie Girls Softball Tournament at West Lincoln Optimist Park.

Also, the once-beaten South Columbus Dixie Darling All-Stars (ages 6-8) remained in the running Tuesday by blowing past Boger City 16-7 in the semi-finals.

The East Columbus Dixie Angel All-Stars, who went unbeaten in District 9 tournament, play at Burgaw against once-beaten West Stanly inWednesday’s championship round.

The South Coumbus Dixie Darling All-Stars took on unbeaten Bunn in Wednesday’s championship round.

In Monday’s third-round Angels’ play, East Columbus defeated Bunn 15-6, and in third-round Darlings play, South Columbus bowed to Bunn by a 21-15 score.

On Monday, the Columbus County Dixie Debs All-Stars (ages 16-18) rebounded from an earlier loss to defeat Brunswick County 3-1 to send the championship series to an extra game. However, Brunswick County prevailed 5-4 in nine innings to claim the state Debs title. Columbus County, which won the 2005 North Carolina Dixie Debs championship, closed tournament play with a 3-2 record, including a pair of victories over West Stanly.

The East Columbus Angels team had opened the tournament on Saturday with a 12-8 win over Duplin County and came back on Sunday to wallop Perquimans 16-2.

The South Columbus Darlings squad had opened tournament play on Saturday with a 16-3 thumping of Perquimans and received a bye in Sunday’s round.
