SHALLOTTE – The Columbus County All-Stars gained revenge Tuesday night, defeating Bladen County 13-1 in fourth-round play of the 2006 North Carolina Dixie Boys (ages 13-14) Baseball Tournament.

Bladen County had defeated the Columbus County team 6-5 in Saturday’s opening round.

Columbus County and Bladen County met again Wednesday afternoon with the winner of that game taking on East Lincoln in the bracket championship game Wednesday night (see results in A-section). The winners of each of the two seven-team brackets will open a best-of-three series today for the state championship.

Winning pitcher Kyle Hufham, Beret Proctor and Layton Ward each had three hits. Hufham and Thomas Ranalli each had a triple and Kyle Canady and Jared Stephens also had hits.

Beret Proctor and Chris Beck combined to pitch a two-hitter in a 10-0 shutout of Duplin County Monday in third-round play of the 2006 North Carolina Dixie Boys (ages 13-14) Baseball Tournament.

The game was halted after five innings by the 10-run rule. The team had a second-round bye on Sunday.

Kyle Hufham had three hits, including a triple, for Columbus County. Mike Watts and Layton Ward had two hits, while Proctor and Thomas Ranalli hit doubles. Jonathan Marvin also had a hit.

Proctor and Beck combined to strike out 10 batters.
