SHALLOTTE – An encouraging start for the Columbus County All-Stars in the North Carolina Jr. Dixie Boys (age 13) Baseball Tournament took a quick reverse Tuesday as the team fell from tournament pay with two losses.

On Tuesday morning, the Columbus team fell to host Brunswick County 8-4 and on Tuesday evening it bowed to Duplin County 7-3.

Columbus County committed nine errors in its morning loss to Brunswick County.

Brunswick County righthander Tre Brown pitched the complete-game victory and helped lead his team at the plate with two hits.

Corey Sykes hit two doubles for Columbus County while Hunter Allen, Rett Lee, Austin Pittman, Houston Barnes and Matt Merritt also had hits.

The game had been rescheduled to 9 a.m. Saturday morning after it was postponed by rain late Sunday night.

Columbus County had opened state tournament play with wins of 13-1 over Bladen County and 11-5 over Duplin County.
