Two Whiteville City Schools incumbent board members have filed for re-election while another newcomer has filed for the Columbus County Board of Education.

Whiteville City Schools District 1 member Carlton Prince filed last week for a second four-year term.

Wednesday, Whiteville City Schools Board Chairman LaDeen Powell filed to keep her at-large seat.

Earlier this week, former Whiteville City Schools teacher and psychologist Esther Scott filed to challenge newcomer Mike Waddell for the Columbus County Board of Education District 3 seat being vacated by Ricky Bullard.

While Prince isn’t facing any opposition so far in the growing city race, Powell is.

Dr. Jim DiMuzio and William Nealey are both interested in the city school’s at-large seat.
No one has filed for the city schools District 2 seat held by Dave Flowers.

In the county race, District 4 incumbent Dale Ward and District 2 incumbent Bill Johnson are unopposed. Both have filed for re-election.

Filing for the county school board ends Aug. 7. Filing for the city school board ends Aug. 14.

Filing fee for the county and city board seats is $61.
