PEGGY MILLS LOCKAMY

TABOR CITY -- Peggy Mills Lockamy, 64, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at the Autumn Nursing and Rehab Center in Shallotte following an illness.

Lockamy was born Aug. 1, 1941 in Tabor City a daughter of the late Elbert and Ruvenia Radford Mills. She was an avid reader and a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She was predeceased by her husband: Robert F. Lockamy and one brother, Joe Mills.

Graveside funeral services were held Sunday, July 30 from the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Tabor City with the Rev. David Todd officiating. Ward Funeral Home of Loris, S.C. handled the arrangements.

Survivors include three daughters, Machelle Harris and her companion Terry Connor of Sunset Beach, Melody Spivey and her husband Gary of Loris, S.C., and Amanda Williams and her husband Ron of Longs, S.C.; six grandchildren, Brandy Harris of Ash, Chandra Marlowe of Granbury, Texas, Bobbie Harris of Holden Beach, Mary Williams, Stacy Williams, and Cody Williams, all of Longs, S.C.; and two great-grandchildren: Riley Boyd of Holden Beach, and Ryan Brackney of Granbury, Texas.

DEWEY DOVE

BLADENBORO – Dewey Dove, 71, died Thursday, July 27, 2006 at his residence. He served in the United States Army.

Final rites were held Sunday, July 30 at Northside Baptist Church in

Bladenboro with the Rev. Scott Lewis officiating. Burial followed in Pinecrest Cemetery in Bladenboro. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Dove, a son, Mike Dove of Bladenboro; three daughters, Ava Simmons, Jackie Dove, and Melissa Dove, all of Bladenboro; two sisters, Mildred Nelms of Jacksonville, Fla., and Pauline Carroll of Dublin; 10 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

ELEANOR G. MOORE

CHARLOTTE -- Eleanor Graham Moore, 95, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006 formerly of Clinton. She resided at the Carriage Club since November of 2004.

Moore was born in Clinton on April 20, 1911. Her parents were the late Archibald McLean Graham and Allie Lee Graham. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Paul A. Moore. 

She was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She began her work career in Clinton in the 1930s as a legal secretary for Faircloth and Fisher, Attorneys at Law. Beginning in 1950, she served as Clerk of Recorders Court for Sampson County for 16 years. After that she worked for First Citizens Bank and Trust for 10 years until she retired in 1965. 

After a brief “retirement”, she resumed her career as a legal secretary with Faircloth and Faircloth Attorneys and worked there for the next 25 years, retiring for the second time at 92.

The funeral was held Thursday, July 27 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Clinton. Burial followed in Clinton Cemetery. Royal-Hall Funeral Home of Clinton handled the arrangements.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Moore Coffield of Charlotte and Allie “Tish” Parker of Whiteville; a son, Paul A. Moore Jr. of Greenville, S.C.; and six grandchildren.

CATHY C. GORE

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Cathy Diane Cook Gore, 49, died Friday, July 28, 2006. Born in Whiteville she was the daughter of Jack Cook and the late Lois Reaves and was raised by her grandmother, Ruby White. She was the widow of Bill Gore.

She was manager of Lakewood Mobile Home Park.

Final rites were held Sunday, July 30 at Sandhill Heights Baptist Church in Columbia. The Rev. Roger Snipes and Brother Amos Hann officiated. Services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 1 at 11 a.m. at Peacock Funeral Home in Whiteville with burial to follow in Long Cemetery, Bethel. John Wayne Porter and Joey Evans will officiate. Kornegay Funeral Home of Camden, S.C. and Peacocks Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements for the family.

Survivors include her father, Jack Cook of Whiteville; a daughter, Robin Duncan of Tabor City; two sons, Daniel Long of Tabor City, and John Long of Clarendon; two brothers, Joey Evans, and Mark Frink; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight (7-31-06) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Peacock Funeral Home in Whiteville.

SANDRA Y. JACKSON

MULLINS, S.C. – Sandra Yow Jackson, 54, died Friday, July 28, 2006 at McLeod Regional Medical Center. She was born Nov. 29, 1951 in Whiteville, a daughter of Frances McKeithan Yow and the late Ralph Joseph Yow Sr.

Jackson graduated from Whiteville High School and the UNC-Greensboro. She was a kindergarten teacher for 30 years with North Mullins Primary and Mullins Early Childhood Center. She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church, where she was active in many capacities of the church.

Jackson was predeceased by a sister, Wanda Yow Mills, and a brother, Ralph Joseph Yow Jr.

Final rites were held Sunday, July 30 at Pleasant View Baptist Church with the Reverends John Forbes and Marvin Lynch officiating. Burial followed in Red Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Cox-Collins Funeral Home of Mullins, S.C. handled the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Gregory Jackson of the home; her mother, Frances McKeithan Yow of Whiteville; two sons, Scott Gregory Jackson, and Patrick Joseph Jackson, both of the home; and a sister, Teresa Yow Stanley of Wilmington.

CHARLES G. WILLIAMS

WHITEVILLE – Charles Glendell Williams, 49, of the Farmer’s Union community, died Sunday, July 30, 2006.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Union Funeral Home Inc.

Survivors include a daughter, Brandy Elizabeth Woodell; three sisters, Barbara Bennett, Theresia Lennon, Rebecca Esh; three brothers, Mark Williams, Martin Luther Williams, and Ricky Williams.

JESSE R. TEMPLE

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Jesse Roby Temple, 93, formerly of Florence, S.C., died Thursday, July 28, 2006 at Sinai Hospital, Baltimore, Md.

Temple served in the United States Army during World War II. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1 at Porter Swamp Baptist Church in Cerro Gordo with the Rev. Tim Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene Hilburn Temple of the home; two daughters, Phyllis T. Hazel of Wilmington, Del., and Debra H. Tervala of Westminster, Md.; a son, Brian C. Temple of Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Trudy Williamson of Richmond, Va.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held tonight (7-31-06) from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

REV. RICHARD THOMAS

CHADBOURN – Reverend Richard M. Thomas, 54, died Sunday, July 30, 2006 at Columbus Regional Healthcare.

Thomas was a native of Vance County and the son of the late Roy L. and Helen Mae Pendergrass Thomas. He was the residing minister at Ward’s Station Church of God in Chadbourn.

Final rites will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2 at Ward’s Station Church of God with the Reverends Billy Gardner and Danny Jeffers officiating and a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3 at South Henderson Church of God, Henderson with the Reverends Timothy A. Dean and Aaron Waters officiating. Interment will follow in the New Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Henderson. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Howell Thomas of the home; two daughters, Helen Juanita Dean, and Kimberly Waters, both of Fayetteville; a brother, Rev. Warren L. Thomas of Louisburg; and four grandchildren

O NEAL ‘BO’ GRAHAM

WHITEVILLE – O Neal “Bo” Graham, 74, died Thursday, July 27, 2006 at his residence.

Final rites were held Monday, July 31 at True Vine Holiness Church in Elizabethtown with Pastor Luel Campbell, and Rev. Harrison Branch officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Union Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Evangelist Hazel Graham of the home; four daughters, Pauline Rouse, Rachael Campbell, Marjorie Campbell, and Jennifer Martin; and a son, Eddie L. Graham.

SHANNON L. HEWETT

WHITEVILLE – Shannon Renee Little Hewett, 33, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006. She was the daughter of James Little and Rhonda Best Britt and stepdaughter of Johnny R. Britt.

Hewett attended the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church.

Final rites were held Saturday, July 29 at Abundant Life Assembly of God Church, Whitevillle with the Rev. Jerry Spivey officiating. Burial followed in Columbus Memorial Park. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville handled the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Lynn Hewett of Whiteville; two sons, Jonathan Lynn Hewett and Cameron Gabriel McLamb, both of Whiteville; three sisters, Amber Little of Lumberton, Andrea Britt of Whiteville, and Tabatha Britt of Shallotte; two brothers, Jeremy Little and Jaylan Britt, both of Shallotte; her mother, Rhonda Best Britt of Shallotte; stepfather, Johnny R. Britt of Shallotte, and father, James Little of Whiteville.

CERRO GORDO – Pablo Munos Mondragon, 29, died Saturday, July 29, 2006 in an automobile accident.

Arrangements will be announced later by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville.

RICHARD ‘DICKIE’ WESLEY DOWLESS JR.

Richard “Dickie” Wesley Dowless Jr., 58, born Jan. 30, 1948, died Monday, July 31, 2006 at Columbus Regional Healthcare.

The family will receive guests at his mother's home, Doris Dowless, 928 Whitehall Road, Whiteville.

NEIL WESLEY BLAKE SR.

RIEGELWOOD – Neil Wesley Blake Sr. passed away at his home on Thursday, July 27, 2006 at the age of 92.

Blake was born Dec. 1, 1913 in Wilmington, a son of the late William Henry Blake and Alma Wanet Blake. His first wife of 48 years, Frances Russell Blake, preceded him in death.

He was a graduate of New Hanover High School, Class of 1930. His entire career centered on family businesses beginning with his father’s farming, general contracting and the millworks, W.H. Blake & Sons. For almost 60 years he was in partnership with his brother, Anthony A. Blake, in Wanet Farms, Wanet Sausage Co. and America Skins, a pork skin business. In 1976, they were recognized at the N.C. State Fair as the “Tree Farmers of the Year.” He was also a charter member of the Cape Fear Optimist Club.

His life was focused in service to the church, his family and friends. He was an enthusiastic member and leader through the years at Wrightsboro Baptist Church, Goshen Baptist Church, Trinity Methodist Church, Livingston Baptist Church, and at Cape Fear Baptist Church where he had been a member for the last several years.

Neil Wesley Blake was a gentleman whose faith directed his business decisions and whose business experience was used in service to his Lord through his church.

Final rites will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, July 31 at Livingston Baptist Church, Delco with the Reverends Dondi Pace and Brian Beaver officiating. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilmington. Andrews Mortuary of Wilmington is handling the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Beulah F. Blake; six sons, Rodger Russell Blake and wife Evelyn, Neil W. Blake Jr. and wife Ann, William “Bill” H. Blake and wife Sandy, Michael Wanet Blake and wife Peggy, Bryan F. Blake and wife Jenny, and James C. Blake and wife Jeannie; stepchildren, Henry Clay “H.C.” Blake Jr. and wife Magdalene, Zelma B. Heller and husband Frank, Lloyd Alan Blake and wife Toni, and Elizabeth B. Settlemeyer and husband Bill; 24 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alma Blake Whitaker of Bossier City, La.
