| Post 137 romps to victory WILMINGTON - Robbie Penny drove in six runs with a pair of bases-loaded doubles Sunday in helping lead the Whiteville Post 137 American Legion baseball team to a 19-7 non-league victory over Pleasure Island at Hoggard High School’s Corbin Field. The game was halted after seven innings by the 10-run rule. The Whiteville Legion team now has a 4-7 season record with two wins over the Pleasure Island squad. Whiteville’s Area 2-West League home game with Union Pines that was originally scheduled for tonight has been rescheduled for June 25 when it will play host to Union Pines in a doubleheader. Coach Brett Harwood’s Post 137 team collected 15 hits off three Pleasure Island pitchers in Sunday’s victory. Jeremy King had three hits and Penny, Ryan McCleney and Jordan McPherson each had two hits. King McCleney, Charlie Gore and Justin Creech also had doubles for Post 137, which broke the game open with eight runs in the sixth inning. Marquis Smith and Lloyd Enzor each had one hit. Post 137 used five pitchers and Corey Blackwell got credit for the win as he pitched the third and fourth innings. Dustin Williamson was the starter and pitched two innings. Caleb Andrews pitched the fifth inning, Daniel Britt pitched the sixth and Penny pitched the seventh. Whiteville will resume Area 2-West League action on Wednesday when it travels to meet Hope Mills. On Friday, the Post 137 team will visit Scotland County. The next Post 137 home game will be June 19 when it plays host to Scotland County.
