BB&T, TurnTech to clash tonight in finals of Whiteville Optimist DY Tournament

Regular-season champion BB&T and runnerup TurnTech will meet tonight at 7:30 in the championship game of the Whiteville Optimist Dixie Youth Baseball Tournament on Harritan Field at Optimist Park.

BB&T, carrying a 16-0 record, advanced to the tournament final by turning back Swing Away 6-4 in Friday’s semi-final round, and Turn Tech advanced with a 7-5 semi-final decision of Sampson Bladen Oil.

The games were played on Friday after heavy thunderstorms postponed play on Thursday during the opening inning of play.

Frank Ciamillo struck out 10 batters and yielded four hits in a complete-game pitching victory for BB&T.

BB&T took charge early with five runs in the first inning and led 6-1 after three innings.
Nick Honeycutt and Shane Castillo each had two hits for BB&T.

Jermal Davis, Cage Deal, Jimmy DiMuzio and Josh Hines each had a hit for Swing Away, and Davis and Mason Hill had stints on the pitcher’s mound, combining for five strikeouts and allowing four hits.

TurnTech 7

Sampson-Bladen Oil 5

TurnTech pitcher Justin White struck out 12 batters and walked none in taking the complete game pitching victory. White also hit a triple and two singles. Lance Caffee clouted two doubles and Seth Spivey had a double and single. J.T. Ward also doubled and Chase Turner added a single.

For Sampson-Bladen Oil, Collin Ransom belted a triple and Tanner Reynolds, Luke Pait and Sky Burney each had two hits. Fisher Stanley and Moochie Rhodes had one hit each.

Gary Vereen and Stanley pitched for Sampson-Bladen Oil, combining for 11 strikeouts.

An awards ceremony will follow the completion of tonight’s game and league all-star teams will be announced.
