Elizabeth Cook and Matt Ward were announced co-winners of the 2006 Milton McKenzie Award as the top student/athletes at Waccamaw Academy during the school’s recent athletic banquet.
Warrior athletes honored

Seniors Elizabeth Cook and Matt Ward were announced as co-winners of the coveted Milton McKenzie Award to highlight the recent Waccamaw Academy Athletic Awards Banquet.

The Milton McKenzie Award goes annually to the top-ranking student-athlete of the Waccamaw Academy senior class. Cook’s older sister Kristen won the award in 2003.

BOYS SOCCER – Dustin Williamson (Most Valuable), Luke Gooden (Defensive Award), Matt Ward and Ian Hooks (Coach’s Award).

GIRLS TENNIS – Anna Scott (Most Valuable), Elizabeth Cook (Coach’s Award), Kristin Strickland (Most Improved).

VOLLEYBALL – Kendra Bridgers (Most Valuable), Brittany Craven (Best Defense), Sabre Jessup (Spirit Award).

BOYS BASKETBALL – Dustin Williamson (Most Valuable), Warren Fischer (Most Improved), Matt Ward (Coach’s Award), J.K Sealey (Most Valuable middle school player).

GIRLS BASKETBALL – Caroline Scott (Most Valuable), Kendra Bridgers (Defensive Award), Elizabeth Cook and Kristen Tyree (Coach’s Award), Sabre Jessup (Most Valuable middle school player).

GIRLS SOCCER – Caroline Scott (Most Valuable), Whitney Hamilton (Defensive Award), Kendra Bridgers (Most Improved), Elizabeth Cook (Coach’s Award).

BASEBALL – Dustin Williamson (Most Valuable), Dustin Williamson (Leading Hitter Award), Matt Ward (Coach’s Award).

CHEERLEADING - Brittini Sealey (Most Valuable).

Earning NCISAA 1A All-State honors were Dustin Williamson in both soccer and baseball, Luke Gooden in soccer and Ben Rouse in baseball.

The baseball team claimed its fourth consecutive NCISAA state 1A championship this spring.
