MARY JANE ALLEN

MIAMI, Fla. – Mary Jane Allen, 82, formerly of Whiteville, died Friday, June 16, 2006.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24 at the Pickett Cemetery in Whiteville. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include three daughters, Carrie Allen of Brooklyn, N.Y., Jeanette Allen and Mahalia Suarez, both of Miami, Fla.; and a son, Charles Metts of Miami, Fla.

Viewing will be at the funeral home on Friday, June 23 from noon until 8 p.m.

RANDY F. GRIFFIN II
Construction worker

BLADENBORO – Randy Floyde Griffin II, 30, died Sunday, June 18, 2006 at his home. He was born Oct. 28, 1975 in Los Angeles County, California, a son of Debbie Chavis Clevenger and the late Randy Floyde Griffin. Griffin was also predeceased by his grandfather, John J. Chavis. Griffin was a construction worker.

Final rites were held Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Rockingham with the Rev. Jerry Green officiating. Carter Funeral Home of Rockingham handled the arrangements.

Survivors include his mother, Debbie C. Clevenger of the home; a daughter, two sisters, Tammy Wright and Michelle Covington, both of Rockingham; a brother, Billy Brisson of Bladenboro; grandmother, Carolina Chavis of Hamlet; stepbrother, Donald Wright of Elizabethtown, and a stepsister, Jessica Kleuss of Austin, Texas.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family in care of Kathy Withers, 3128 Biscayne Dr., Chesapeake, Va. 23321.

RICKY LISTON HAWES

ASH – Ricky Liston Hawes, 41, died Sunday, June 18, 2006. He was born in Columbus County on July 7, 1964, son of the late Liston and Ruby Ward Hawes.

Hawes was a retired Cross Connection Back Flow Coordinator for the Brunswick County Utility Department and a member of the Exum Hunting Club.

Final rites were held Wednesday, June 21 at Longwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenny Todd officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Brunswick Funeral Home of Shallotte handled the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Tharp Hawes of the home; two daughters, Taylor Brooke Hawes of Green Sea, S.C. and Trina Osborne Rising and husband Randy of Nakina; a son, Andrew Wayne Osborne and wife Renee of Ash; five sisters, Sheri H. Robinson and husband Brent of Longwood, Cindy H. Davis and husband Donald of Ash, Joanne Lowrimore of Wilmington, Hazel Faulk and husband Roy of Nakina, and Sandra Long and husband Jason of Shallotte; two grandchildren, Courtney and Olivia Rising; five nieces and nephews, Courtney Robinson, Heather Gurganus, Jesse Robinson, Bryan Pierce, and Justin Davis.

Casket bearers were Keith Gurganus, Pete Ward, Bobby Simmons, David Rourk, Paul Piggott, and Scott Evans. Honorary casket bearers were co-workers from the Brunswick County Utility Department.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Taylor Brooke Hawes Trust Fund, c/o any BB&T Bank.

TABOR CITY – Robert Mayberry Watts, 86, died Sunday, June 18, 2006 at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was the son of the late Luther and Dolly Mae Fowler Watts.

A graveside service was held Wednesday, June 21 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Lila Jean Watts of Tabor City; two sons, Robert Dale Watts of New Castle Del., and James David Chaney of Whiteville; three brothers, Rufus Watts of Green Sea, S.C., Luke Watts of Tabor City, and Lence Watts of Conway, S.C.; two sisters, Mezella Soles of Tabor City, and Joyce Young of Baltimore, Md.; and three grandchildren.

LOUISE C. HAWES

NAKINA – Minnie Louise Clemmons Hawes, 59, died Monday, June 19, 2006 at Bladen County Hospital. She was born Jan. 13, 1947 in Polk County, Ga. the daughter of the late David Washington and Grace Louise Quick Clemmons and the widow of Vance Lennon Hawes.

Hawes was formerly employed with the Columbus County Department of Aging. She was a member of the Nakina Rescue Squad for eight years and a member of Pine Level Freewill Baptist Church.

Final rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 22 at Pine Level Freewill Baptist Church with the Reverends Allen Pearson and Henry McKeithan officiating. Interment will follow in the Ward Cemetery. Peacocks Chapel In The Pines is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include a son, Robert Lee Clemmons of Nakina; a stepdaughter, Lela Mae Ward of Nakina; a sister, Alberta Clemmon Cliff of Whiteville. She was preceded in death by a stepson, Liston Hawes.

WHITEVILLE – William T. Wooten, 78, died Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at his residence.

Arrangements will be announced by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville.

WHITEVILLE – Edwin “Eddie” Kenneth Cline, 53, died unexpectedly Monday, June 19, 2006 at Craven Regional Medical Center, New Bern. He was born Jan. 27, 1953 in Catawba County the son of Martin Leonard Cline of Taylorsville and the late Ruth Kirby Cline.

Cline was a member of Shiloh Lutheran Church, was a graduate of Taylorsville High School, UNC at Chapel Hill and received his master’s degree from Appalachian State University. He was employed as a certified public accountant with Thompson, Price, Scott & Adams in Whiteville since 1988.

Final rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, June 23 at Shiloh Lutheran Church in the Bethlehem community, Hickory. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Adams Funeral Home of Taylorsville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors other than his father include a sister, Vicky Kerley of Taylorsville; and a brother, Glenn M. Cline of Millers Creek.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 22.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Willie Mae Page, formerly of Chadbourn, died Friday, June 16, 2006.

Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 23 at Frank & Bell Funeral Chapel located at 536 Sterling Place, Brooklyn, N.Y. The Rev. Dexter Cramartie of Hartford, Conn. will officiate. Survivors include four daughters, Doris, Sallie Faye, Mary Lillie, and Tonia Page, all of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and a sister, Lucille Young of Chadbourn.

WALKERTOWN – Edith Marshall Howard, 82, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006. She was born Sept. 27, 1923 in Rowan County to the late Arch William and Lalla Teague Marshall.

HALLSBORO – Wesley Roy Freeman Sr., 100, died Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at Brunswick Cove, Leland.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 24 at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Zion Church at Lake Waccamaw with the Rev. Richard Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Cutler Cemetery at Lake Waccamaw. S&L Goodwill Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his children, Charles Freeman, Roy James Freeman, and George Franklin Freeman, all of Hallsboro, Earnest Freeman of Smyrna, Del., Marie Freeman, Suitland, Md., Wesley Roy Freeman Jr., of Dover, Del., and Jackie Freeman Campbell of Lake Waccamaw.

NEW BERN – Melanie Suzanne Johnson White, 38, formerly of Chadbourn, died Sunday, June 18, 2006 at her residence.

Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 22 at Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church in Whiteville with the Rev. Steward Norris officiating. Interment will follow in the Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.

She is survived by her husband, Michael White of the home; two daughters, Kaitlin King and Elizabeth White, both of the home; parents, William C. “Dinky” and Dottie Arp Johnson of Chadbourn; a sister, Lisa Marie Johnson of Chadbourn; and a brother William Jeffrey Johnson of Chadbourn.

WHITEVILLE – Sandra D. Ginter, 56, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington. She was born June 29, 1949 in Columbus County the daughter of the late Woodrow and Gladys Brown Duncan.

Ginter was employed with Liberty Medical Specialties and was formerly employed with Collier Gas Company. She was a member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church.

Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24 at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines by Dr. Dave Heller. Interment will be in the Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park. Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Scottie Ginter; a son, Andrew Gore of Newport News, Va.; a daughter, Cindy Gore of Whiteville; a brother, Jerry Duncan of Whiteville; a sister, Shirley Hyatt of Wilmington; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, June 23 at the funeral home.
